As an Indian movie fan, I regretted two movies last year.
One is "Queen Padmawati".
It is supposed to be the movie of the heroine (the title is all based on her name), and it was basically a man's movie in the end. The heroine was a vase in the first half, and the second half was a grand event of self-immolation and death. ".
It's really hard to describe.
The other is "Indian Thugs".
Although Uncle Mi also said that this is only a commercial entertainment film, since it is based on the anti-British background and nationalism as the main theme, some basic elements still have to be filmed. As a result, the whole story becomes fragmented in Frankie's inexplicable repetition. I can't appreciate the blood and momentum of resisting the colonists at all.
Really disappointed.
Today, these two regrets have been made up by a newly launched Indian film, which is-"Queen of Zhang Xi".
Let me briefly talk about the character of Queen Zhangxi.
Queen Zhangxi's name is Lakshmi Payi. She was born in India in 1835 and has been proficient in martial arts since she was a child. When she was 17 years old, she was married to Prince Zhangxi, and became a widow the following year. As she had no children, she became an adopted guardian of the throne.
At that time, most of the Indian subcontinent was colonized by the great powers, Britain, and the various kingdoms were also surrendered to them, but the greedy British were not satisfied. They wanted to further annex the kingdoms to maximize their interests. The Principality of Zhangxi was just after the death of the prince. It didn't take long to suffer this bad luck.
The strong Queen Zhangxi was unwilling to compromise, and joined the feudal lords to launch a massive Indian national uprising in 1857, aiming to drive out the British colonists. During the period, Queen Zhangxi was the first to bear the brunt, charging and fighting, her people resisted killing, and the bravery of the Buddha resisted and killed the British. Many British soldiers did not dare to step forward when they saw her. Only one of his eyes cut him off the horse, and a generation of queens eventually died of injuries due to excessive injuries, at the age of 23.
Although the uprising was declared a failure, the British army also suffered a serious setback, and as a result, re-examined the strength of India's homeland, and then began to adopt a softer policy of appeasement. (At least I don’t dare to annex Tubang anymore)
Therefore, Queen Zhang Xi saved India to a certain extent. Today, she is one of the most revered heroes in the hearts of the Indian people.
The success of the film lies in the two key elements: the heroine + anti-British, there is no extra nonsense, especially the fact that there is no extra love scene, which is very satisfying.
At the beginning of the story, the Queen’s birth is described. She was born on the banks of the Ganges River, the holy river in India. From her immature face, the religious master predicted her extraordinary destiny and gave the whole character a legendary color.
Then, it was straight to the queen hunting in the wild as an adult.
She has outstanding appearance and amazing martial arts. The tiger strikes without fear. Not only did she hit with an arrow, she was also calm and calm when facing the tiger's counterattack. She was confident that it would not be able to hurt herself. This courage was really too powerful.
What’s more commendable is that the queen does not like killing like ordinary warriors. She healed the wounds of the unconscious tiger and released it to the forest, which not only protects the villagers, but also does not hurt their lives. There is a little bit of kindness revealed. The benevolent style.
This uniqueness turned into a rebellion against tradition in the subsequent proposal of marriage.
Faced with the messenger who came to propose marriage for Prince Zhangxi, she not only did not have the slightest shyness, but also showed her skills without restraint. While showing off her superb martial arts, she also demonstrated her heroic demeanor of a female man, subverting the traditional attitude towards women. Stereotypes and constraints.
With such a personality, the queen is not willing to accept this arranged marriage that seems to be able to gain prosperity and wealth, but after the father and adoptive father’s righteousness, she still agreed. It can be seen that she has always been a person with family and country feelings. .
In this way, in three steps, the image of a patriotic woman with a legendary color, good at martial arts, bold and anti-traditional stood up quickly.
At the same time, the hidden dangers of the Principality of Zhangxi were also brought out-they urgently needed to find a suitable wife for the prince to give birth to children to inherit the ruling, or the Principality would be annexed by the British colonists.
The queen’s special personal traits were quickly thrown into the confrontation with the British colonists. She was unwilling to obey her cowardly husband, bow her head to the powerful colonial ruler, and she didn’t want to see her people being bullied by the colonists, let alone being bullied by the colonists. After losing her husband, following the instructions of her mother-in-law, he followed the traditional rules of widowhood. Instead, he chose to inherit the throne like a man, to prevent the British from annexing the principality, fight against the greedy ambitions of the invaders like warriors, and fight against the invaders.
Because she is not a weak woman who can only follow the traditions of husband and child, she is the brave and fearless Queen of Zhang Xi, convinced that she shoulders the responsibility and mission of protecting Zhang Xi!
The two key elements of the story are intertwined in a narrative line and complement each other. While the queen’s personal image is constantly enriched, it also accumulates a full of nationalism. Until the final scene of the grand war, as a Chinese, I can bear it. I couldn't help getting excited, and shouted in my heart: Kill these invaders! And was deeply impressed by the queen's bravery and invincibility.
I think that being able to arouse the emotions of the audience in this way is enough to prove the success of the film!
The film is also commendable, that is, it does not render the warring parties too dramatic.
The British are very despicable, but they are not mentally retarded, they will buy and conquer divide and conquer, they will use the faith of the Indians (cannot bombard temples) to gain a strategic advantage, they are also very strong and good at war, and the Indians are victims, but they are not morally perfect. There are traitors who betray Zhang Xi for personal gain, and there are cowards who hide in hiding in fear of life and death.
And Queen Zhangxi was very rational in the uprising, letting go of the women, children and children of the British colonists. Although this treatment may beautify her, it also avoided the promotion of unnecessary hatred and killing.
So this is an anti-British movie, but not an anti-British movie. This is another reason I like it.
In addition, as a leading actress, this film is also very feminist. This is not only reflected in the anti-traditional spirit of Queen Zhang Xi, but also reflected in the women who practiced and sent troops with the Queen, in order to inspire them, The queen even shouted this slogan:
This alone does not know how much better than "Queen Padmawati", the enemy came in, the women did not rush to the jade to burn, but quickly covered their faces to protect the dignity of their husbands... drunk !
The role of Queen Zhangxi is the well-known Indian actress Kangna Ranout, who has always been very personal, and she is indeed very suitable to play the Queen.
Several appearances are simply stunning!
And on the battlefield, there are all kinds of fierce eyes, sturdy and brave, regardless of their image, they really want to look good, and they want to have skills.
At the same time, Kangna also accurately portrays the queen’s mighty and unyielding integrity, the heroine’s unshakable bravery, the anti-traditional spirit of not loving red clothes and arms, and the kindness of loving her people and treating life. Called full score performance. (I don’t understand why the film scores so low)
It is said that after the Queen's sacrifice, the British army used the highest standard military salute to bury her ashes.
The British commander-in-chief General Ross also wrote in his memoirs: "Queen Zhangxi's outstanding beauty, wisdom and tenacity made her the most dangerous person to us among all rebel leaders."
And I just want to say, arrogance never dies, justice lasts forever!
