Cats of Xingyue Country, and others

On the way from Antalya to Fethiye, I finished watching the documentary "Kedi" (meaning "cat" in Turkish). I finally understand why there are cats in large and small corners of Istanbul. There are so many cats beyond your imagination; why they are not kept by humans, but they are all strong, smooth hair and bright in their eyes; Taking the street world as your home, you can also show intimacy and friendliness to all passers-by. When you are near, you are neither afraid of evasive nor wary of attacks.

They are a part of this city, a part of life that the people of this city regard. They respect each other's way of living, give each other space and freedom, and can be each other's salvation when needed. What the film tells is only the stories and fetters between ordinary people and cats, but in reality there are countless similar and even more amazing plots being staged back and forth. This is not a special case, nor is it accidental, but rooted in character, even faith.

People in Xingyue Country believe, "A cat meows on your feet and looks up at you. In fact, this is the smile of life to you." Maybe there is no place where stray cats can get better than in Turkey. But I'm afraid there will be no other place where people can get more comfort from these walking hairballs. From this perspective, the cats of Xingyue Nation are so lucky, so why not the people of Xingyue Nation.

In fact, Istanbul is just a microcosm of Turkey, and cats are a microcosm of all animals. In the wonderful Star-Moon Kingdom, I walked all the way, marveling at the small distance between humans and animals and the closeness of the relationship. As witnesses to the prosperity and decline of this millennium empire, animals may be even more a symbol of a city. They have always been passing visitors, using their own words to tell the past and life at the moment.

Kedi quotes

  • Bülent Üstün: Down the hill in Cihangir, there used to be a big harbor during the Ottoman era. Ships from Norway and elsewhere would come with cargo. Sailors would keep cats on board to fend off rats. As cargo was being unloaded, cats would get off the boat thinking that they'd made it to land. And trek up to the top of the hill. Later, they'd miss the boat and begin life here in Cihangir. Now, there are countless kinds of cats in this area. Norwegian cats, and cats from all over the world. There's a lot of variety. Later, the first Ottoman sewers were built in this part of the city. And giant rats would terrorize residents. That's why every house had a cat. To fend off the giant sewer rats.

  • Unnamed Human Resident of Istanbul: The streets seem empty to me without cats but it's a strange situation. It's a total dilemma if you ask me. The city no longer accommodates them. But at home, and I know from my own cats they forget their cat-ness after a while.
