This is the third Churchill movie I've watched recently. As the most beloved character in British history, it is worth it.
This movie happened to be Churchill's "effort" in another period. Following the successful realization of the Dunkirk retreat, the British, French and American forces finally prepared to land in Normandy, retake France, and counterattack the fascists.
Although the specific background film did not give much explanation (of course, the Soviet-German War entered a very difficult stage, Stalin repeatedly urged Britain and the United States to "open up a second battlefield", although the delay was due to practical reasons and selfishness, but further delays, If the Soviet Union is defeated, the Anglo-American coalition forces will return to the sky too weak), but we all know that the most important thing in war is "opportunity". After making sufficient preparations, the coalition forces are ready to quietly conduct landing operations. But we know that landing battles are the same as battles for grabbing high ground and fortresses. They are all "ten encirclements", and there must be more army expenditure.
The American star Eisenhower and the British star Montgomery are the generals who are mainly responsible for frontline operations in the film, and Churchill, as an outstanding politician, is now in a delicate position. He was worried about his people, hundreds of thousands of young people in Britain would lose their lives like that, so he was always reluctant to let the soldiers go, and always wanted to have a more appropriate strategy (safer, less sacrifices, of course we know this is not Possibly. Although the film said that the war was won, and the sacrifice was very small. In fact, looking at the data, we know that the victory of the United Kingdom and the United States paid a heavier price than the German army). The general thought he was not suitable for taking part in command, so his orders were repeatedly ignored; he was very angry, but helpless. Then he suddenly proposed to join the British king personally. Of course, he was rejected. Even the king who agreed to him at first came back to discourage him (because the leader's personal campaign is to protect the army and boost morale; but the problem is to give It brings danger to itself, such as the "Turn-to-Wood Fort" in Chinese history). In the end, he could only accept, and then gave up all kinds of entanglements (he even prayed to heaven, given the bad weather, not letting the army go), returned to his professional work, and wrote inspiring "sentence speeches" and " Victory speech".
The film shows Churchill at this funny stage, which is refreshing and surprising indeed. After all, it made people see the awkward situation of the little old man, Churchill, who was loyal and patriotic, and could not help. Instead, it made trouble for the army and caused trouble for the generals. Of course, looking back, he happened to be the fundamental reason why Churchill was loved by the people. He has the people in his heart and cherishes those young lives very much. It is not that they are the children of other people, but that they are the children of the people at the bottom. That is the cannon fodder and price that must be paid for the war. Therefore, his ridiculous entanglement and struggle just make people feel his dedication even more.
Yang Zhu proposed that "it will benefit the world without losing a single cent," while Mencius proposed that "the world will benefit the world without gaining a profit." Yang Zhu’s view is that Taoism’s "doing nothing and doing nothing" is basically the core value of capitalism, "selfishness of human nature, but it happens that selfishness of human nature makes the world work." Mencius’s point of view, on the contrary, emphasizes the spirit of sacrifice and dedication, which embodies the core values of Confucianism, the values of Buddhism and the Mahayana, and the values of Christians: "Great love can create a better world." Obviously, Churchill's contribution happens to be the best footnote. Perhaps your dedication, your love and attachment to the world are just a disturbance to the world order, but don’t neglect that “dedication is also a kind of motivation”, and this kind of motivation is more pure, but this kind of motivation is often contrary to the world.
From this point of view, this movie shows exactly the third level of understanding of Churchill's life. 18.5.7
