Title: Give me a dad Kolja
Director: Jan Svilak / Czech Republic 1996
Duration: 100 minutes
In the early spring evening, the afterglow of the setting sun was printed on the wall, glowing with warm yellow colors, the breeze slowly passed through the treetops, and the pigeon flapped its wings and pecked at the edge of the window with its hard beak. The mysterious call, the secret sign of invitation.
At this time, you only need to open your eyes, open the window, and let the wind in, and countless sounds will rush in. Light and dust flow in the air, and the lively breath instantly fills the whole room. It's time for you to open your long-closed self to welcome the new face of life.
This is a certain moment in spring when long-lost emotions are awakened in the body.
You fly a kite and watch it fly higher and higher in the high blue sky until it turns into a vague black spot. You can no longer see it, only the thin thread is still holding in your hand. The wind blows, and the rope tightens, you feel the power in your hand. That is the response of the kite to you. It is a greeting from high in the sky and deep in the clouds. At this moment, there is a shallow bond between you and that distant world.

A few days ago I finished watching the movie "Give Me a Dad", which is a story about loving and being loved.
The film took place in Prague in 1988. The owner of the road card was originally a cellist of a symphony orchestra. When he was young, he went to the Carnegie Hall in New York with the orchestra to perform. He was a very talented musician. But in the face of domestic political pressure and tension, especially after his younger brother immigrated to other western countries, he was under more pressure and soon lost his job. He could only accompany others at the funeral or help others. Repairing tombstones, the meager income can barely make ends meet.
Decades have passed, and Luca is almost an old man with a half-white beard. He was struggling, he was rugged, and he wore ripped socks when he played at the funeral. He has no family and no children. His mother once said that people who make music are not suitable for family life.
Even in such an environment, his life cannot be summed up in a downturn. The daily life of an elderly bachelor is full of calm rhythms, even somewhat romantic and chic. In his free time, he plays the violin in the attic room, without the trivial burden of the family, and occasionally different young girlfriends come to stay overnight.
???
When a person is used to being alone, he doesn't think that is a problem. Maybe something is missing, but what is missing?
Have many girlfriends, but only one lover is missing.
I have played countless songs, but only one audience is missing.
To live by himself, as if in a cave where there is no echo.
On the streets of the Czech Republic in the 1980s, the secret police in plain clothes were monitoring people's conversations. Soviet heavy trucks and soldiers passed by in groups. The windows of an ordinary residential building on the side of the road might still have the Soviet flag stuck on it. With vigilance and defense against the outside world, people are transformed into moving islands.
Luca wanted to buy a car for himself. In order to raise money, he agreed to fake marriage with a Soviet woman, but he did not expect to be deceived. The woman ran to West Germany with the Czech passport obtained from the marriage and left her son. Corea serves as a guarantee.
?????
Just like that, the little boy stood outside his door with a small suitcase.
The little boy doesn't speak Czech, and the two are not fluent in the language, and there is a gap at the beginning. The boy needs someone to take care of him at any time, so Luca can no longer date his girlfriend at home. A five-year-old boy’s diet and daily life are now all taken care of by the layman. Apart from his busy schedule, his stable life is completely over.
The two of them began to stay inseparable. Luca took Coria to perform at the funeral, and placed the boy beside him when he was questioned at the police station. Even when Coria was sitting on the ground with a nasal mucus, he had to compromise and take him to watch Soviet cartoons. Even if Luca didn’t understand at all, she couldn’t help but smile when she saw Coria’s little confused face. .
Coria had a high fever, Luca stayed up all night to take care of him, and even moved in his old lover to help when it was difficult to deal with. When Korya's fever finally subsided, he turned around and found that the father-son relationship between the two had already heated up rapidly.
In the winter of 1989, more than 100,000 people held a parade in Prague, and the "Velvet Revolution" (which did not go through a large-scale violent conflict, got its name because it was as gentle as velvet.) kicked off. Coria sat on Luca's shoulder and followed the crowd to protest. In the crowd, they also saw the secret police who had investigated him also protesting and shouting.
The parade in 1989 realized the peaceful transfer of domestic power. This year was also a year of turbulence in the world. In the same year, the Berlin Wall was overthrown, and East Germany and West Germany were once again unified into Germany.
✈️☁️☁️❄️?
The great wheel of the times has turned again, and the barriers established between countries have been completely overthrown. But at this time, the close father-son relationship between Coria and Luca is facing obstacles.
Coria's mother returned to Prague to pick up her long-departed son. At the airport, Luca and the little boy formally bid farewell. The plane passed through the clouds and took away the boy and father's concerns.
I like one of the scenes in the story. It takes place outside the beautiful white courtyard. Little Coria is immature and self-playing the violin. Even if he plays randomly, even interferes with the performance in the venue, it breaks the original structure of the building. The man-made boundaries of, the closure disappears, and the music flows between indoor and outdoor.
It was a discordant note that happened by accident in life, but it accidentally created resonance that had never been seen before.
The appearance of the little boy was like a light, illuminating Luca's closed heart all year round.
When the loved one leaves, the one who remains has regained the ability to love.
In the door that had been opened, the wind was blowing in, and the sun was warming.
