Movie Notes: A Revenge Action Movie

Originally I wanted to give Samsung 7 points, but in the end it really got worse and worse. 6.9 points couldn't be more. Let me talk about a few thoughts.

This film was watched at the Cannes Film Festival. Although it is an oriental story, it does not affect cultural understanding. It is just that the translation is a bit strange, and it is not that the translation is not bad, but the taste of some things changes when they are literally translated. , Especially the translation of this period drama, I always feel uncomfortable.

From a visual perspective, the beginning of the story presents the "past" in black and white, and when it enters the "present", it turns into color, which is similar to Hou Xiaoxian's "Assassin Nie Yinniang".

Violence is the biggest feature of this movie, and it does have a sense of shock. Kitano also likes to highlight violence. His violence reveals loneliness and nihilism. This existentialism also gives violent meaning, but the violence in this movie is indeed explosive. The scene of corpses after the killing is impressive. , But if you use too much in the same movie, it is easy to be aesthetically tired.

This is not so much a samurai movie as an action movie. Although it uses the vengeance theme in the classic samurai movie as its coat, it focuses not on the spirit of the samurai and Bushido, but on the fighting scenes, especially the one hundred people cut. But I have always felt that Iaido is the essence of Japanese kendo. You can't finish fighting, and you can fly around. Although it is more visually impactful, it loses the unique taste of Japanese Kendo.

Let's talk about styling. Some people think Kimura's dress is too rough, uncut, and covered with scars. I admire it. It can be seen that this is a man who has experienced countless battles. The character itself is also very distinctive. Immortality is not a novelty. The difference is that in this movie, immortality does not make the protagonist invincible. The victory he won is exchanged for countless setbacks and scars. This kind of victory is only possible. More valuable. The other samurai is played by Fukushi Sotai, but I don't think he is suitable for acting as a samurai. He looks good, but he is too modern and young to make a show. In addition, he is very tall and the position of the belt always feels strange. The non-mainstream looks of him and Chiaki Kuriyama are really comics, but they did blow me away.

There are actually many shortcomings of the film, awkward lines, idol drama-like routines, too long, not concentrated enough, the story is very loose, I fell asleep for 15 minutes, and woke up a little bit unable to catch the plot. The final sensation is really not touched at all, the heroine has been lowering IQ. It might be better to make a TV series with such a subject matter. In fact, this movie has already begun to take the form of a TV series, and multiple fights can be one episode per game.

Long and loose is the characteristic of many manga Japanese movies, but I personally think that the first part of "Rurouni Kenshin" is well modified, and I hope that the manga works will get better and better in the future.
