Actors The Greatest Show on Earth (1952) - The 25th Oscar for best film

I saw the film defined as a circus documentary film most of the time acrobatics, punctuated by the four corners of a love relationship and clown story. The performance of the circus is particularly wonderful, and the shooting should have taken a lot of energy. After watching the movie, I suddenly wanted to watch it live, but now I don’t know where there is a circus performance. I think of the book "Elephant's Tears" I read before, and the background is also a circus. The circus is like a small world, big tents, bits and pieces on the train, a mobile home, here is all they live in. In the movie, the hard performances of actors and animals and the various expressions of the audience are not only circus performances, but also contain the most beautiful and stupid aspects of human nature. Very hard movie~

The Greatest Show on Earth quotes

  • Buttons' Mother: [just after giving gifts to circus spectators, Buttons secretly goes to his Mother and they whisper to each other] They've been around again, asking questions.

Buttons: [whispering] I know Mother. They'll never find me, behind this nose.

Buttons' Mother: [whispering] Be very careful, dear.

Buttons: [whispering] Now, how about a nice smile, that I can remember until next year?

Buttons' Mother: [whispering] God be with you my boy.

Buttons: [whispering] It's all right Mother.

[Buttons then did a light secret hug to his mother and started acting like a clown, again]

  • [Phyllis is having her hair washed by Birdie as heart-throb Sebastian approaches;]

Phyllis: Why is it whenever he's around I'm all wet?

Birdie: In more ways than one.
