The story is about the decline of a small port/fishing village in eastern Canada. The local residents (visually left-behind old people) rely on government subsidies to survive; one of the residents, Brendan Gleeson, Murray’s old wife doesn’t want to have this kind of despair. Life left and went to work in the city.
Murray accidentally learned that an oil company intends to build a factory here, but the first prerequisite is that there is a registered doctor here-the problem is that doctors/young people don't want to come here.
The village chief couldn't bear to move away overnight.
Turning around the corner, the former mayor who entered the city to become an airport security inspector found that the young doctor was carrying drugs, and reached an agreement with him to come to the fishing village to "try" for a month.
Next, the most important task of the new mayor Murray is to lead the villagers to kidnap the doctors to stay, so that it is logical to attract investment to build factories, and everyone will have a job... The
next step is for the villagers to play a variety of simple and unrestrained simplicity. Creativity is the story of Grand Seduction's great temptation to doctors.
...In
the end, Murray couldn't bear to deceive the doctor, let go. The doctor learned that everything was a scam and was heartbroken and rushed back, but he was sincerely moved by Murray> stayed> opened the factory> everyone regained their jobs.
Murray has returned to the true happiness days of working hard during the day like his grandparents and having sex with his wife in the evening.
The doctor also reaped true love in the village, and everyone was happy.

When watching a movie, especially the temptation part in the middle is also funny, but when I look back carefully, it is a deep sadness...
The old people who have worked hard all their lives, their children left, and the unemployed stay at home, their dignity is greatly affected. ;
Knowing that Oil Company is not a good thing, but still having to do everything possible to please them is extremely helpless...

None of us got rich, but we are comfortable again.

Murray's line in the monologue at the end of the film impressed me. Maybe Pride and True Happiness are a bit too big. Comfortable again is the most real feeling.

  • Murray French: How was your first day?

    Dr. Lewis: Busy. Yeah. Real busy, Murray.

  • Henry Tilley: 'Cause the doctor might find it a bit peculiar they're all dressed up as cricket players, and we're playing with equipment that looks like cricket equipment, but we have absolutely no idea how to play cricket!
