Even under such circumstances, this movie still does not lose its moving power. The footage of Rory's first appearance was actually quite horrible: he was transported to Carrigmore from a cage-like car, his expression was solemn, and he obviously didn't like this journey or this new "hospital". For a typical rebellious teenager, you can imagine that he is tossing around in various nursing homes like those naughty junior high school students who are dismissed and accepted by the school. He is indeed not a good boy, and his behavior is simply annoying (Unfortunately, the high value of his face can only make it painless and not itchy to say the last sentence: really naughty~). In fact, Rory is only doing what he has the right to do, he is just the kind of non-universal person who flouts the rules. He returned to Carrigmore with Michael's fun, and half-jokingly pushed the mistake on his head, and when he found that Michael was really upset by the administrator's criticism, he immediately became serious and took responsibility. He is not a disgusting selfish ghost, he is just an optimist who loves life, he just wants to experience all the rights and pleasures he deserves. What I like the most is the way Rory "driving" his wheelchair so fast that he can't even see the shadow. That passion and vitality make people uncontrollable and joyful.
Michael is more pathetic than Rory. Although his physical condition is better than Rory, he doesn't even have a family member who cares about him. Although the nurses in the nursing home love him, no one can understand him-in fact, this is not difficult. Siobhan, who has taken care of him for a period of time, can easily understand what he means. It can be seen that the care of the nursing staff is actually not involuntary. The fact that Rory could understand him almost ignited him, and the only reason he applied for an independent life was basically this. In fact, until Rory was critically ill, Michael didn't understand the "independence" he was pursuing. And Rory taught him more than that. When he fell in love with Siobhan, Rory scolded him and told him to understand what responsibility is. It is conceivable that in his colorful communication activities, how could he have never met a girl who made his heart beat? And who can appreciate the pain of his parting?
Many people don't understand the meaning of "independence" for a lifetime. Too many people want to change their lives but cannot do without the wings of their elders. And how can you get the life you want without the courage to break the boat? How much risk do you face than the danger of unattended persons with disabilities? At the end of the film, Michael stared at Rory’s empty wheelchair, but he heard the sentence from his spirit: If you wanna have a walk? If you want to walk freely, then bravely push the door open and walk towards this colorful world.
