All mavericks, just to feel the thing of being alive

The film does not have the grand spirit of disability, nor the sweet love that ends with all kinds of hardships. It is just about personal independence, growth and freedom. Both Rory and Michael are physically disabled young men. One cannot control his body and language, and the other can only move his mouth and fingers of his right hand. These two living people give the audience a healthy life.

The world feels that he is ignorant, but the world does not understand them. The society thinks that they are given the best and most considerate care, but in reality they are the most shameless imprisonment. Not only are their bodies imprisoned by disabilities, but their minds are also subject to various regulations and concepts. Imprisoned, it's not the legs that can't step out, it's the soul.

Although they will also play a little humor, play a little temperament, and occasionally want unruly indulgence, but from the beginning to the end, the string of responsibility is still stretched in their hearts. They are responsible for themselves and their lives. It is also because Responsibility, Rory can’t speak out about love, because he knows that he can’t give anything, so he hides it and

looks at it shallowly . When I watched it, I thought of "Flying Over the Cuckoo’s Asylum" and "Diving Bell and Butterflies". Rory always knew his time. There are not many days, so I use my life to bloom, to be agitated, to fight, and to feel. Those eyes that are hurt, concerned, admiring, cramped, and humiliated all make the viewer feel that this arrogant person has a more sensitive and fragile heart than ordinary people. Although it is an inspirational film, there are no slogan-style slogans, and no positive example of roots, and some are just a real life. The maverick in the eyes of the outside world is just for him to really feel alive.

Looking at Rory reminds me of a sentence: to live, bloom like there is no tomorrow.

Rory O'Shea Was Here quotes

  • Michael Connolly: [Siobhan is interpreting Michael's words] When I first met Rory I thought he was trouble. And I was right. He *is* trouble. Yet because he is seen as a rebel, you believe he hasn't the responsibility to live independently. But how do you learn to be responsible? You live in the world. You make your own decisions. You make your own mistakes. So if this panel can offer independent living to someone like me who until recently had no concept of what that meant, and refuse someone whose very life is an embodiment of independence, then I believe that the panel showed a prejudice.

  • Rory: [looking at Michael] You have the future, Michael. That's what *I* call a gift.
