The story is simple: two people who are full of pure hope, one sees his hope become a phantom and collapses, the other ends toward an unknown future, even if he himself is full of confidence.
Al Pacino had just made a few films that year, and they had already made a big splash, all of them were leading roles. The most important thing is probably the godfather one he just filmed the previous year. That one is soaring, even if the godfather's production is quite reluctant to let him play, he thinks he is too short. In Scarecrow, Al didn’t have that big brother's tune at all. He became a cute little pitiful lover. He mobilized all the tenderness in the heart of Gene, a big man whose appearance was as stiff as his heart, and rendered a touching picture. His brotherhood is deep. Al's ability lies in his ability to focus on the role, acting like what, not being dragged down by an overly handsome face. He has never presumptuously judged the malice of others, so this little man with a mind to make the world happy, even allows himself to be hurt by physical and mental violence again and again, and after being injured, it also makes the audience unable to help. Give birth to the feeling of "self-seeking". This has become his destiny in the eyes of the audience. From the past to the present, it may not be difficult to imagine his future.
In Gene's place, the world is different, using violence to control violence, not afraid to conjecture others with the greatest malice, so as to cover his own fragile heart. (This statement may not be agreed with others). Where can I see his real fragility? Without him, it's just that endless layer of clothes. The first time Al saw Gene undressing, his eyes straightened. The scene was ridiculous, but the fiercest one was yet to come-when Gene's violent desire finally made Al feel desperate and want to leave, Gene suddenly realized All of his most precious things are at stake, and he does not hesitate to put down all the painful pleadings for Al to turn his head, Al had a clever idea, put a provocative dance music on the slot machine, Gene began to jump up to the music, the whole bar people At first I was a little surprised watching Gene's performance, and soon I was completely stunned by his outfit. Al watched Gene making fun in hardship, his eyes gradually changed from molesting to sadness. This was Al's most serious moment in the whole movie. Two big eyes were stagnant there, and what was left in them was thinking and introspection? His spirit is wandering, and his sadness is entangled with Gene's, spreading in the space...
A seemingly simple story becomes an interpretation of human nature. This film easily transcends ordinary "road movies", telling a story that is disconnected from society from a human point of view, and therefore it becomes a universally applicable movie that will inevitably make any audience moving and emotional.
