Tiny classic

Some great works are so small, too small to be known.

I know people who have watched "The Scarecrow" said that they didn't expect it to be so good. In fact, if there is no Al Pacino in it, maybe no one will watch this film, and it may even be lost. In the 1970s, some heroes appeared in large numbers, and some geniuses died. It was an era when everything could happen.

Based on the first three minutes of the film, the composition of the screen, the setting of the plot, and the final artistic conception, you can be sure that this director is definitely a potential master. He Ping in "The Yellow Earth" may not be comparable. However, a Cannes Palme d'Or, placed in the name that can make an unnamed person instantly think that it is impossible to walk in the night at night, for this person, it seems to be a descent, and there is no chemical reaction at all. He was like the Lin Sheng who wrote "Outside the Mountain, Qingshanlou Outer Tower", and after a flash in the pan, there was another silence. There is only one such thing handed down.

For individuals, this may be a tragedy, but compared to the bad works of many masters followed by chickens and dogs, this one is enough.

Throughout the 1970s, Gene Hackman looked fierce and could explode at any time. In fact, a year ago, he won the Oscar actor with the originator of a burst detective. But the Burst Criminal has social value. Under other circumstances, a person who sees someone and beats someone will go to jail sooner or later. This time, his role is the type that almost sat through the bottom of the prison, and came out with the prison wages. However, if you sit in a lot of prisons, you will inevitably develop a mental illness. Everyone is like a hooligan. This kind of distrust and hostility is often the source of a new round of violence. Fortunately, Hackman has always been an actor who can discover a sense of humor in violence. He soon made his character not only well-developed, but also simple-minded. From top to bottom, he is vulgar and cute, and he is truly a "Popeye". Even the women who matched him are not in the shape of a small bird, but a cow with a big face and breasts, which is full of the taste of the market.

The real little birdie is Al Pacino.

I always thought that this was the greatest performance of this great actor. He is no longer a sinister godfather or a burst gangster, and he is not old enough to play those stubborn old men. In fact, he restored Chaplin here. The short, thin, but constantly gimmick sailor he performed was the little tramp from 40 years ago. He came back, partnering with a big man again. The first half of the whole film is like watching "Gold Rush", and it is almost the essence. The funny little tramp used his own dilemma to resolve every impulse of the big man, just like 40 years ago, watching other people's affair eagerly, he can only be a sad light bulb. Even the "feminine" features in Chaplin's performance that pretended to be feminine, he also restored them one by one. Of course, this was in the 70s, when the early comedy model had become history, it was to be misunderstood as a friend. This is also a shadow over the film. So a plot to draw a line quickly emerged below. But from that moment on, all the romance disappeared, and the audience and the plot had to return to reality.

The little tramp has been subjected to violence by homosexuals. Moreover, he can no longer be beaten like a rubber head in a classical comedy that would not be taken forty years ago, and be safe and sound. In reality, his optimism is useless, his funny is useless, his weakness is a lamb waiting to be slaughtered in front of a strong man, he will bleed and meet beyond recognition. In an instant, all dreams in the world were shattered in blood, and Chaplin's aura disappeared. Pacino regained his real identity: a failed, weak, and vulnerable person. His body is so weak, and his spirit is not strong. Because of an escape from pressure, he has buried a dangerous future for himself. When his wife told a vicious lie out of revenge, he went crazy.

Therefore, this film will not end like Chaplin's film, there is no big road, a little tramp walks into the distance. The little tramp entered the hospital. Only the big man is on the way to withdraw money. He has to give up his business plan and accompany his friends. If anything is still classical, maybe it is this kind of sentiment.

A very sad story with a very melodious American country music background. There is only such a soundtrack, but it is the same as everything in this film. Although it is less, it is enough.

Scarecrow quotes

  • Lion: The crows are laughin'!

  • Lion: Hey Max, you heard the story of the scarecrow?

    Max Millan: No.

Lion: You think crows are scared of a scarecrow?

Max Millan: Yeah, I think they're scared. Yeah why?

Lion: No, crows are not scared, believe me.

Max Millan: The god damn crows are scared.

    Lion: No, crows are laughin'.

    Max Millan: Nah, that's bullshit...

Lion: That's right, the crows are laughin'. Look, the farmer puts out a scarecrow, right, with a funny hat on it, got a funny face. The crows fly by, they see that, it strikes 'em funny, makes 'em laugh.

Max Millan: The god damn crows are laughin'?

Lion: That's right, they're laughin' their asses off. And then they say, "Well, that ol' farmer Jo down there, he's a pretty good guy. He made us laugh, so he won't bother him any more."

Max Millan: The god damn crows are laughin'...

    Lion: Ohh, they laughin', woooo!

Max Millan: I gotta tell ya somethin', that's the most hare-brained idea I've ever heard.

Lion: It's true, they're laughin' their asses off.

Max Millan: The crows are laughin'... I guess the fish are reciting poetry...

    Lion: I guess so.

Max Millan: Uh huh... and the uh, pigs are playin' banjo? And the dogs would be, let's see, uh... playin' hockey. And the uh... the uh...

    Lion: Crows are laughin'.

Max Millan: Crows are laughin', right. Ya know, in the joint I've heard some tales, oh boy, golly I've heard some tall tales. But at least those guys had the decency to admit that it was bullshit, you know what I mean? They actually took pride, pride in that it was bullshit. But the crows are laughin' huh? I mean you're not playin' with a full deck man, you got one foot in the grave beyond.
