I have not seen many animal movies, most of them are healing or warmth, such as "The Hachiko", Xiao Ba has a deep affection for the owner. After the owner dies, he still insists on waiting at the station, and finally he is in the heavy snow. Ended his life. There is also the "Mission of a Dog" that has been very popular in recent years. The plot is also very moving, but it is too sensational for me who lives in reality and can't escape reality. There are also many fantasy movies and animated movies, such as "Little Mouse", "The Secret Life of Pets" and so on, so I won't mention them here.
I forgot who recommended "White God" to me, but I remember putting it in the movie list because the movie's name is very interesting. "WHITE GOD", the white god. In Western culture, white often represents sacredness, elegance, and purity, and God itself is an important worship image in Western culture. "White" has layered buffs on God. Using this as the title, the director seems to believe in the world. There is something very beautiful, and pray to him.
This is how I felt before watching the film.
After watching it, I checked some materials, combined with the film, and got more information.
WHITE GOD, GOD, in turn, is DOG, which is a white dog. This film pays tribute to "WHITE DOG" directed by Samuel Fuller in 1982, using the image of "white dog" to criticize the various problems of American racism. "White God" was influenced by "White Dog", but it wanted to tell more.
The protagonist of the film, Lily, lives in a family with divorced parents. The family environment prevents her from getting enough love. Only the dog Hagen can stay with her. The mother was going on a business trip for three months and entrusted her and her dog to the father's care. My father's life is not going well. Although he loves Lily very much, he doesn't know how to get along with her. The apartment they live in clearly stipulates that raising a mongrel dog like Hagen requires high fees. The father is unwilling to pay and wants to send Hagen to the shelter. Lily disagrees, and the two have a conflict because of Hagen. Lily was afraid that her father would send Hagen to the asylum, so she took Hagen to the music school, causing chaos in the classroom. Father and Lily quarreled and threw Hagen on the construction site halfway by in a rage.
So far, the film is divided into two lines. .
——The abandoned Hagen looked around for Lily, got lost in the rushing traffic, and became a stray dog. He went to the market, did not steal the meat, but was chased by an angry butcher. Fortunately, another white dog suddenly appeared, and he was saved from dying by the butcher's knife. He followed the little white dog to the abandoned construction site where stray dogs gathered, and met members of the shelter to catch the dogs. He finally escaped, was caught by a homeless man, sold to a dog farm, and then sold to a professional dogfighter by the dog farm. The indifferent dogfighter cruelly trained it to be a cruel dogfighter, letting him fight with the same kind in the dogfighting arena. Hagen killed the same kind, ran out while the power was out, found the little white dog, and returned to the former construction site. However, within a few days of work, he was found by the dog trapping team of the shelter and was taken to the shelter. Here, Hagen watched his kind being euthanized. When the adopter came to examine it, he made a misunderstanding gesture, and Hagen attacked her. Hagen was sentenced to death for this. The administrator dragged him to a group of dogs who were also sentenced to death. Hagen, who was completely disappointed with humans, killed the administrator and rushed out of the shelter with hundreds of stray dogs.
——Lily looked around for Hagen. She traveled all corners of the city, even went to the asylum, and did not hear from Hagen. When she was disappointed and wanted to give up, the male classmate who was studying music together relieved her. Lily looked at the classmates wanton in the bar, and wanted to solve the pain in other ways. She wanted to smoke, and begged her male classmate to take her to a party for a drink, but under the flickering lights, in the crowd, she fell asleep out of place. The meeting place was reported. She was taken to the police station as a suspected drug-taking participant. Her father was very guilty and asked her daughter to reconcile with "Let’s go to the pet shelter and adopt a dog." Lily saw the fragility of her father and felt her father. Love, the two reconciled. The school concert was about to begin, and my father went to see Lily's performance.
Two lines meet.
Hagen led the dog group to raging in the city and came to Lily's concert.
Lily ran out to find Hagen, and in the deserted city, she saw the city destroyed by the dogs, as well as the butcher and porter killed by Hagen. She couldn't understand what Hagen had done, and speeded up the search for Hagen. One person and one dog met at the slaughterhouse. Hagen led a large group of dogs towards his former owner. Lily wanted to use a wooden stick to interact with Hagen. Hagen was indifferent. In the end, Lily blew her own trumpet. Amidst the familiar sound of the trumpet, Hagen was comforted and slowly lay down on the ground. Lily was also lying on the ground, the camera zoomed out, the dogs were lying quietly, Lily also lying quietly, her father came over and sat beside her, waiting for the dawn.
The film covers too many elements: animals, family, plot, horror, horror, revenge... There is still a bit of magic in reality, and it is difficult to define what type of film it is.
Many people call it the stray dog version of "Rise of the Apes". With the unimaginable "dog disaster", eye for eye, tooth for tooth, human beings feel the crisis they have created. But I think it is not very suitable. The story of "White God" is very magical, but the shooting technique is very realistic, the cold tones, and the slightly shaking lens directly show the audience the coldness of the modern industrial city. In addition, the story of "White God" is not at all a contradiction between human development and natural life, nor is it revenge. Although I don't understand why Hagen can lead the entire dog group to complete revenge for everyone (obviously it is a plot processed to achieve the narrative purpose of the story), but it is still acceptable. After all, this is not the point of the story. There are several places in the movie that left a deep impression on me. Let's analyze it briefly.
1. Hungary.
The superficial contradiction in the story is due to the contradiction arising from raising a dog. The Hungarian government stipulates that raising non-native purebred dogs must pay high taxes. Hungary in the film is gloomy and cold. Hungary has a very complicated history. He was an accomplice of Germany in the last World War II. My knowledge of modern European history is average, and I can't find out in-depth analysis. But I know that war will bring pain to most people, and this pain will last for many years. Each country’s position in the war is different, and the way it suffers is also different, which has also formed the temperament atmosphere of each country. The style of the film fits very well with the temperament of Hungary. At the end of the film, when the dogs run wild in the city, the music is the passionate and sad "Hungarian Rhapsody." Running wildly, there is a feeling of staring at the rolling destiny. Director and screenwriter Kenel Mudluzzo was born in Hungary. When he was shooting, he should also incorporate his own perception of the country's destiny into it.
2. Tang Huaise.
Thirteen-year-old Lily, adolescent Lily, is going through an important stage of shaping the worldview. She is at odds with her parents and has lost Hagen. But life is still moving forward. After looking for Lily for several days but found nothing, she posted a poster outside the bar and met a male classmate in the class. After receiving gentle comfort from the other party, she tore off Hagen's poster and unfolded it again, very tangled. In this clip, Lily and her male classmates discussed the opera "Don Wise" that the teacher asked them to watch.
(Duringa in the early 13th century, Don Wise left the illusory world of Venus, the goddess of love, returned to the real world of the Waltburg Valley, and reunited with the holy Elizabeth. The conflict between the two worlds is based on the essence of love. The singing contest reached a climax. Don Wise was not allowed to belong to his group because he sang the pleasures of the flesh and Venus. It was Eliza who made him realize his sins and went to Rome on a pilgrimage. The pope rejected his repentance, but God But I am willing to forgive: the smooth wooden stick that means that it will never change suddenly sprouts again, symbolizing Tang Huaise’s rescue.——Excerpt from Music Learning Network)
Lily and many of her classmates didn't go to see, the teacher was furious and blasted them out of the classroom.
Before that, they also guessed and interpreted Tang Huaise, thinking it was telling a love story. At this time, the 13-year-old Lily could not get enough love from her life, and lost Hagen again. She was lonely, empty, and at a loss. She began to place her feelings on other things and followed her male classmates to participate in the so-called "adult" Party, I want to drink and smoke, but when she is really in this environment, she can't find anything to rely on her soul. The next day, she was arrested and went to the police station. She was partially healed after seeing the feelings her father showed for her. She was obediently at home and went to the concert obediently. In fact, there is no need to say far-fetched about the similarities between Lily and Tang Huaise's stories. In Tang Huaise's story, Tang Huaise finally got God's forgiveness after repenting. Lily saw her father's love and also got spiritual comfort. This is where the white God's affection line stretches.
Love exists, and love needs to be expressed.
3. Little white dog.
The little white dog saved Hagen twice. Once at the butcher's yard, the little white dog helped him escape from the butcher's knife. The other time was in an abandoned factory, and Xiao Baigu led him to escape from the chase of the asylum personnel. During Hagen's wandering time, the best thing for him was the little white dog. After Hagen escaped from the dogfighter, he met the little white dog again, and was caught in the shelter together with the little white dog. When Hagen took the group of dogs and attacked the city, the little white dog followed, and he went looking for it. Lily, trying to bring her to Hagen, eventually died under the gun of the SWAT. There is an interpretation that Hagen represents the lower class, and the white dog represents the upper class in a sense. A white dog became a stray dog and rescued the stray Hagen, and eventually died under the gun of a special police. If you think about the name of the white dog and the movie, as well as various extended meanings, there will be various interpretations. I don't like over interpretation. To sum up, to put it simply, there is goodwill in this world. Kindness is wonderful. But the effect of goodwill is limited. Goodwill will eventually die.
4. Slaughterhouse.
Lily's father works in the slaughterhouse. On the day they picked Lily home, they drove home with a few cows that were led into the slaughterhouse in the background. At the end of the film, Hagen came to the slaughterhouse after taking revenge on all the people who hurt him. Lily and her father are here. Facing the huge dog group, her father is ready to fight against it. Lily blew the sound of the past to comfort Ha Gen's trumpet successfully calmed the dogs and showed the most classic scene of the movie. A huge group of dogs lay prone on the ground, and human girls also lay prone on the ground. People and dogs looked at the same level, and the camera zoomed out, revealing a shocking harmony.
However, the city has been sealed off at this time, and after dawn, the dogs still cannot escape the fate of death. They are like the cows brought into the factory at the beginning of the film. After a good sleep, they are about to usher in a unilateral massacre.
There are many interesting things in the film. Reports on the tenants who bit Hagen, the workers who catch the dog, the tramp who catches the dog, the dogfighter, etc. can all be analyzed and interpreted. Especially the plot of Dog Fighter and Hagen, but I'm a bit tired, so let's write so much first.
The film used a large number of dog actors and issued a statement of compliance. There is no way to prove that Hagen’s plot as the main line should be a natural release, but it is actually something that humans manipulate and perform. I know that this plot can express certain ideas of the creator, but I really don’t like.
All in all, what the film "White God" wants to express is very complicated. "Hagen" represents the weak, and "Lily" represents a kind-hearted superior race. In the current world, if people of different species, even different classes, groups, and positions cannot understand each other, the contradictions will only intensify and eventually lead to irreversible tragedies. The creator named the film "White God" because he believes in the existence of beautiful things and has confidence in them, but also understands that tragedy is the core of life. There is no such thing as an innocent "white God". To put it pessimistically, "salvation" itself is an output behavior, and it is normal to not get results. Probably the director stuffed too many things, which eventually led to the collapse of the rhythm in the second half. The plot is understandable, but it conflicts with the realistic style of painting, which is a bit regrettable.
