Movies paying tribute to Murnau

"The Humblest" is my most comfortable movie after watching the four previous works of Mornau ("Castle", "Phantom", "Burning Earth", "Nosferatu"). The reason is that it is finally no longer in the style of drama-it is told in units of scenes. In the middle, I am still looking forward to the card subtitles of Murnau, and I found that there is no end. I am still excited to write some essays.

When watching this play, I will find a question. Why are there so few research papers about director Mao Nao in China? Is it because I have little knowledge or are Chinese people not interested in it?

Murnau’s film made him resound all over the world and became one of the representatives of the European avant-garde film movement. Let's take a look at which shots have been flopped! Don't talk nonsense, go directly to the picture!

one,

People's respect after returning home

Is this scene very familiar? It was the same at the beginning of the film "Angels on the Road" filmed by Yuan Muzhi in China in 1937. The dazzling uniforms, the respect and love of people, even the place where the protagonist lives. . (I made a mistake, hope don't hit me!)

"Angels on the Road"

two,

Being served in a hotel

This shot is from the second 20 minutes. The screenwriter Mei Yu gave the audience a Hollywood-style ending. It is more about the situation in Germany at that time. After all, the movie is a dream factory and we need to calm people's hearts. There are similar scenes in "The Beautiful Legend of Sicily"! It can be said to be a show of dignity.

three,

Here is a shot borrowed from Murnau's "Phantom", in the Phantom, this shot is the beginning of the protagonist's nightmare.

When we lament Director Murnau’s unique character understanding and exaggerated composition, we must also see the true value of the film-leaving a valuable reference case for future generations! If there is any inappropriateness in this article, please let me know!

This film tells the same story as "Sunrise", affirming its historical status in the German 1920s indoor drama film and its superb use of light and shadow, but the storyline is too weak, and the look and feel is far from Fritz Lang's " Magical movies such as Nosferatu, Nibelung, and Dr. Mabus the Player. In the silent film era, I thought that the silent comedies of Chaplin and others in the United States and the native German national stories were much better than this film.

    1. German Expressionism (indoor drama film) combines the subjective shots of French Impressionist films 2. There are almost no real word cards in the film, except for the dream ending of the last dog tail, everything else is a close-up shot of a newspaper or letter 3. Perspective Scene 4. Smooth Camera Movement (Rotation)
