I have been looking forward to seeing the movie "Monkey". After watching the movie, it did not disappoint me. It is indeed wonderful. Whether it is photography, soundtrack or editing, it is a surprising plus point.
This film narrates a special squad of the Colombian reactionary army, the monkey squad, in order to reflect the abstract picture of the 60-year-long war of division in Colombia. Eight members of the monkey squad guarded American captives in an isolated place, a female engineer, and the only person in the film with a gene of civilization. The first incident in the team was the suicide of the captain brought by the cow. The team members shot and celebrated the captain's wedding, but killed the cow they were protecting. The captain committed suicide in fear of crime. Bigfoot took the opportunity to take the lead. Among them, we have seen that for the small team, their environment and education are under a kind of powerful rule, and all events including the pursuit of a partner need to be allowed by the superior instructor. Moreover, everyone lacks private space. Everyone lives in the public domain. The lack of privacy implies that everyone is monitoring others. In the subsequent plot, everyone divided the equipment of the wild wolves, exposed each other, and ran away alone, it can be seen that the relationship between the players is not very close. The death of the wild wolf is a precursor to the disintegration of the monkey team. There is also a detail in the process. On Rambo’s fifteenth birthday, the celebration ceremony was to flick the whip fifteen times. Doctorola was also asked to flick it. She was unwilling but had to flick the whip fiercely. From this point of view, it is the first time that her civilized thinking has received a direct impact and breakthrough.

The whole movie is in a gloomy environment, not only the humid atmosphere of the rainforest, but also the ideological cage of violence under the rule of power. These eight people and the captives formed a small community that was almost completely closed. The partners and friends were limited to these people, and the completely lost private space made everyone fear each other. The bonfire in the dark, the hallucinogenic mushrooms, the solemn singing and dancing and the hidden gunshots all brought mystery to the movie. Just as they cannot understand that Doctorola, who they treated "kindly", is going to escape, we cannot imagine the indispensability of violence to humans. In such a context of almost returning to ancestors, killing is no different to these children and trampling to death an ant. This idiosyncratic thinking was brought about by war. The war is abstracted, and then shown by a group of children, which is the monkey squad. The monkey is a highly abstract violent epic.
