It took an hour and a half to watch this movie and it is highly recommended. The following is a little bit of my experience watching the movie.
In this movie, there are various conflicts:
One is the conflict between father and child. At first, in the eyes of the children, a father like Cam was unqualified, and even troubled because of this father. My mother went to New York to study but gave the father and daughter an opportunity to get along. In the time of running-in, the father-daughter relationship was gradually repaired, and she became proud of having such a father. But the reason why the father-daughter relationship can be turned into peace and even more harmonious is due to the natural love between the father and the daughter, that is, the child's attachment to the father and the father's love for the child. At the end of the story, Cam watches the child go away, which also means that the child grows up and can fly by himself, but in any case, looking back, the father is always there. Although the child is reluctant to give up, he still has to have his own life and move forward on his own.
The second is the conflict between Cam and real life, that is, the conflict between romanticism and realism. Cam came from a distinguished background, and his family was once rich. He grew up in a superior living environment and didn't know how to feel sad. He can be regarded as innocent and romantic. Not only is he in the Bohemian era, he also belongs to the Bohemian era. Cam itself is a very attractive man, has a strong perception of the beauty of life, yearning for freedom. However, time is constantly moving forward, and people gradually calmed down from fanaticism and embarked on the so-called path of rationality. They are more sensible, but also more indifferent. This reality makes Cam suffer from mania, and uses drugs and alcohol to fill the gap between ideal and reality. Unemployment, even mental treatment in isolation, separation of husband and wife, these all show that he is incompatible with the real world. In the collision with the real world again and again, constantly adjust, gradually realize the harmony with the real world, and accompany the children to grow up happily.
The third is the conflict between patriarchy and feminism. In the city of Boston, women are not equal. Mother Maggie went to New York to study and worked harder than others, but she couldn't find a place to stand in the workplace in Boston, just because she was a woman and she had children. In the eyes of everyone, it seems that women should bear most of the responsibilities for the family and take care of their children at home. At the end of the movie, Maggie went to work in New York alone and left her hometown. Despite her reluctance, she still had to abandon her children in order to send them to a good school.
The movie title polar bear refers to the father Cam, who is suffering from mania. In the eyes of others, Cam is the polar bear who cannot control his emotions. Here infinite is used to describe Cam, the omnipotent father who uses love as a bridge. . This movie sees the big from the small, and the small details are warm and moving, which is teary. In addition, through these, we can also understand the fashions of the 1970s and 1980s, so this movie is worth a taste.
