After Young Adam watched, Ewan, who was snarling flowers everywhere, didn't even make me feel disgusted. This is due to the smell of his eyes. So let's go with the flow and like this low-key movie.
When I checked the information, I saw a review titled "Walking a Slow Boat on the Erotic River", which I thought was quite appropriate. And this kind of "slowness" is the keynote throughout, from the plot to the performance to the extension of every detail, the rhythm is not procrastinated, but rather stable. The temperament of the whole film is quite distinct, a bit of coldness in the gentleness, just like lukewarm music, just like the main color of cold but not strong like green and blue, just like the suppressed melancholy of ewan, and the deepness of the water. The stories and emotions that were originally quite intense are portrayed introverted and calmly, sentimentally and silently. It's been a long time since I watched a movie of this style. To the heart is actually a kind of calmness.
I like Joe's perseverance, but hidden turbulence. Perhaps because the director has a pity for his character. The amorous prodigal who is constantly changing women around him has an expression of indifferent loneliness before and after. He has been smoking cigarettes, sometimes silently and regrettably, these are all superficially exposed. His selfishness was diluted by the quiet face, perhaps because he was always calm. He gave all those women the same amount, but they didn't get anything substantial from each other, as if his behavior originated from Eve's needs. He didn't give anything, and didn't expect anything.
In the film, his remorse for the plumber Dan when he went to court, his heart hidden in the darkness, and his rather empty nature are all deeply portrayed. He didn't feel guilty after making love, he was actually better than any Eve. Because otherness is so.
Perhaps the goal of the director is to reflect this. As such a prodigal son Joe, his life is actually without purpose. The messy structure of the film also highlights the lack of left and right in Joe's character. This movie makes people forget the criteria of moral judgment. Perhaps this kind of person should have been criticized. When I re-titled Young Adam, I suddenly found myself in a contradiction that was set by the movie.
