Truffaut said: "There are only two movies in the world, one is before Godard, the other is after Godard." This "Woman Is Woman" is Godard dedicated to the new wave muse Anna. Karina's gift. Godard doesn’t want to express anything through this film. He just wants to play tickets, play new heights, play forms, play accents, play a unique existence. He wants the world to know Anna Karina and let the world worship. Under Anna Karina's pomegranate skirt, she also fell under Godard's imagination. This is Godard's tribute and rebellion to Hollywood musicals.
The story is simple, Angela is a nightclub stripper, she lives with her boyfriend Emil. The thing Angela wants to do most is to have a baby, but her boyfriend Emil is reluctant to live and die. In desperation, Angela had a relationship with Alfred, a man who had been pursuing her own riffraff. Then she confessed to Emil, and finally Emil agreed to the request to have a baby. After achieving the goal, Angela looks at the camera and the film ends.
It is such a vulgar story that bursts with colorful luster under Godard's whimsy and Anna Karina's incomparable performance charm. There are so many amazing things in the film. Highly saturated colors fill the lens. In nightclubs, homes, stairwells, restaurants, shops, actors’ costumes, the rich colors blend everywhere, with the actors’ exaggerated expressions and body language that make the movie. Exudes a thick cartoon texture. Angela's kissing couple downstairs stood like sculptures. Alfred crossed the street with a cigarette in the street and scolded the debt collector. Godard's signature jerky stop music and jump editing were full of joy. Alfred and Angela's funny stop-motion moves. Angela threw the fried egg into the air and went out to answer the phone and then came back to catch the egg. The couple saluted to the camera before quarreling. Emile called his rival Alfred to the house to get along with each other in harmony. Emile and Alfred performed their "special skills" in front of Angela. Alfred hit the wall with his head in the restaurant to prove his love for Angela. Godard used a downgrade shooting method to make the shot of hitting the wall full of joy. The loveliest thing is that Angela and Emil didn't talk in a grudge, and then each got up at night, picked up the book and scolded each other by the book name. It was really too playful and cute. Anna Karina's charm is magnified to the extreme in the film, quirky, cute and sexy.
Anna Karina: New Wave Muse. Jean Paul Belmondo: The ugliest beautiful man in France. Jean Claude: The man who plays New Wave works. Godard: The movie rebel. This kind of configuration, this kind of talent, this kind of movie is destined to exist alone.
