"Future Machine City": Early warning of "fairy tale"

Probably because of some reasons for the "Running Manga" itself, the animated film "Future Machine City", originally scheduled to be released in the summer of last year, was not able to meet the audience in theaters until this summer.

This film was originally titled "Go Go!" The Sino-US co-production animation of "Amnesia Superman" won three nominations for best visual effects, best character design, and best dubbing at the 46th Animation Annie Awards last year. Netflix also bought the film's overseas distribution for US$30 million. right.

Generally speaking, even if "Future Machine City" is not an outstanding work, at least it shouldn't be so bad... Unfortunately, it's counterproductive.

Although the film is quite accomplished in technology and design, the plot logic is too rude and mindless. Only by positioning it as a "fairy tale for (less experienced) children" can people be relieved.

[Friendly reminder: There will be spoilers below. 】

For such near-future/overhead-themed sci-fi movies, I am always accustomed to watching the setting first, then the story- purely from the perspective of appearance, the environmental design and visual effects of "Future Machine City" are still good.

In this world, robots have deeply penetrated into all aspects of the human world. All kinds of robots are active in all walks of life. Humans can no longer leave their normal lives. Of course, this setting cannot be too detailed.

At the same time, the image design of the robot in the film is more in line with the current real-life "artificial intelligence" research and development direction, sleek, convenient, and electronic screen expressions, instead of pursuing "science fiction" too much. It is placed in such a child-oriented animation. In the movie, this design concept is quite accurate.

However, apart from the "first impression" at first glance, the other aspects of "Future Machine City" can't bear to look at it...

First of all, the basic set is difficult to convince the public.

The protagonist Su Mai is a girl who is severely lacking in love and hates robots. She was able to enter Dr. Mi's secret laboratory by accident because she evaded the security robots at the Q treasure 6 release site. This is incredible enough in itself. She has to touch the disgusting robot, and then trigger the "fetters" between the Tsundere little princess and the simple robot. This is very unconvincing. Prior to this, there was no sign of "duplicity" in Mai Mai, and she only loved herself. Little puppy bun.

Secondly, the basic logic is chaotic , and it hasn't found its own position at all.

In order to return Su Mai school bag, 7723 launched a track across half of the city. He did not hesitate to remove all "obstacles" and successively destroyed security robots, roadblock robots, patrol robots and even military flying robots. This is already considered important The incident of a sudden safety accident was actually understated as a minor accident without concern...

When wheat took the "thugman" 7723 to dominate the blessing, destroying all kinds of robots also disrupted social order. It is serious enough to destroy public property and threaten personal safety. In the film, it is actually just a social story on a talk show. That's it.

Third, the emotional relationship is handled sloppily and unreasonably.

As mentioned earlier, when Su Mai took the 7723 to destroy everywhere, the film already showed signs of "out of control"-a young girl with a heart disease and eager to vent is okay to destroy itself, but her way of venting is not throwing a pillow. Smashing a door is a deadly weapon capable of destroying a city, but the lack of invisible "checks and balances" in the "exaggerated narrative" has made the story lose the basic empathy.

At the same time, the design of the mother of wheat is too unbelievable. I hope that her daughter can find a robot company like herself. But this does not mean that she has to be inattentive. The latter part of the film also shows that she has wheat in her heart, which means that the role is completely before and after. Contradictory.

In addition, the villain's image is very old and rigid.

Big BOSS Pangjatin’s "hypocrite" label is so obvious that the surprising reversal of "he has been replaced by the king of war" has also lost its effect, and his demands actually seem to have no damage at all. The forceful "destroying humans" is really boring/speechless; Dr. Mi is almost the same. Since he can secretly develop a BUG-level robot like 7723, he shouldn't be forced to be so destitute by the old man.

Probably only the dubbing of Feng Yuanzheng and Shi Banyu is the only thing to watch...

When the characters, plot, narrative, etc. of the film are in poor condition as a whole, the theme of "companion" that "Future Machine City" wants to express at the end also loses its glamour.

In an environment where "the world is big and I am the biggest, passersby and villains are all food", the emotional bond between Su Mai and 7723 is more like a game, starting in a hurry, proceeding chaotically, ending tragically, and happy again. The earth is eternal...

Therefore, the ones who are really suitable for watching "Future Machine City" should be those young and children who have read a small number of films and have not been involved in the world. They will not notice the problems in the film and look into the lively and moving stories.

In addition, fans of "Running Manga" should also be able to enjoy it (right?). Whether it is the "Pangolin Talk Show" in the film or the two Easter eggs at the end of the film, it is far from being able to describe it as "carrying private goods". The big guys are happy together.

After talking for a long time, I just want to point out the "low and young" of "Future Machine City" . If the restrictions on the audience are relaxed, the film will not be so bad. At least its conception and theme are great, about memories, companionship and feelings. Words always have a warm and beautiful existence.
