I am the producer of Future Robot City. The work of scoring is left to everyone.
These few days have been the peak of anxiety in my life. Although "Future Machine City" has achieved good results overseas, if it is not recognized by domestic audiences, it will be infinite melancholy.
I rummaged through all the film reviews, and I was moved, heart-stucked, and awakened. All kinds of emotions were mixed together.
I want to share with you some of the behind-the-scenes mental journeys. I don't want to impress everyone, but I want to convey to you that we have not been serious in the past 7 years.
1) Regarding wheat's rebellion: From the very beginning, our screenwriter decided that wheat would be rebellious, and never regretted it from beginning to end.
Friends watching major events may remember that we once met a high school student who tried to commit suicide. He sent us 2,000 yuan in a private message, and entrusted us to use his last savings for charity, and then poured a bottle of liquor and a few. There is no more news from cephalosporin. We quickly called the police. When the police knocked on his door, his parents were watching TV in the living room, and he didn't notice the waves in his son's heart behind a door. Fortunately, the police arrived in time and quickly took the child to the hospital to rescue him. What's worrying about this incident is that the imbalance of parent-child relationship must have been early signs, but maybe the parents have been pretending to be invisible so they can't do anything, and the children don't understand the expression, so the gap is getting bigger and bigger.
For a while since then, we seem to have become a hotline for depression among teenagers. Among them was a 14-year-old girl from a single-parent family in a second-tier city. Her mother made a living by setting up a stall, leaving early and returning late. The girl believes that she has depression and hopes that we will donate her to the doctor, but her mother does not believe her at all, and definitely says that her daughter must be lying to us. So we decided to sponsor the two of them to fly to Shenzhen for medical treatment. If they are not sick, everyone is happy. If depression is really diagnosed, the mother must take her daughter to receive treatment. Unfortunately, my daughter was diagnosed with a serious depression, so we donated the follow-up treatment costs, and they promised to go home for treatment. I thought that the next plot would be the restoration of the mother-daughter trust relationship, and the daughter was treated and returned to the right track. Unexpectedly, her daughter obviously asked for help, but took the donation to buy cosplay shoes. This bear kid! Pissed us to death. She didn't change her body just because of our kindness, but she really needs help. If we continue to blame and scold her blindly, she may never get better. This makes us realize that "rebellion" is not formed in a day or two, nor can it be changed in a day or two. Therefore, in the creative process, the "bear" of wheat is made more excessive. A real bear child is suddenly After acquiring the large-scale thug 7723, her natural development was to take revenge and destroy, because it was an uplifting thing for her. Everyone needed strength to protect herself, but she began to abuse her strength, but she unknowingly became what she once was. The kind of people spurned. Fortunately, she met a big idiot 7723, and only 7723 was as stupid as she could tolerate such annoying little kid over and over again. And Wheat is also an idiot, she cherishes what she doesn't understand, and keeps using 7723 as a tool until she finally loses him. Seeing some netizens commented that “there are not so many people hurting you on the way to growing up”, this is the truth that Mai only understands at the last moment. Once she understands that someone still loves you, she can truly reconcile with the world.
We understood from the very beginning that there is a lot of risk in this role modeling, because many audiences will transfer their hatred of the protagonist into hatred of the movie, but we still insisted on it because we hope that the 14-year-old depressed girl, I hope all bear children in the world can find their 7723, and learn to cherish and love earlier.
2) About Guoman: Apple mobile phones are all made in China, but everyone will think that they are American products, because the originality and brand are American.
Most of the production of "Future Machine City" takes place overseas, but the creativity, master control and brand are all Chinese. Overseas income has entered the pockets of our Chinese people, and it should be Chinese.
I especially understand everyone’s expectations for purely domestic production, and I also hope very much. I firmly believe that the day when Guoman rises will come. But that day does not come when a movie goes out, but until Chinese animation practitioners can support themselves well without relying on "explosive money".
Here are a few of our experiences.
In 2013, we decided to make a movie, and then we searched for various domestic animation production companies, but they all thought we were going to make a movie with those rubbed memes, no one believed us, no one took us seriously. So we went out to sea by accident.
Then we hired a bunch of Hollywood masters who had been in the animation industry for more than 500 years. We worshipped them blindly. We didn't dare to question or refute. So it took a year and millions of dollars to create a one that no one liked. work.
Then we realized that we cannot worship blindly, nor can we blindly be confident. We have very good creative points, not inferior to them, but we have no experience, can not control the film language and industrialization process, we still need their help to make a sufficiently international work for the time being. A few years later, our movies were sold to Netflix, setting a record for overseas sales of Chinese movies. I am very proud and very worried, because I know that there is a lot of luck in this, and we have received countless noble people's help.
However, many domestic colleagues do not have the overseas leg. If it is not a hot money, hundreds of people will face the crisis of unemployment. Because the average income of domestic animation cannot support a large enough production budget, if the budget is not enough, the quality can only be reduced, and if the quality is reduced, there is no box office guarantee. If this vicious circle can only be broken out of the explosion of money, this is not a sufficiently mature industrial system.
Chinese animators have dreams. This is not an appreciation, because you must have a dream, otherwise you can't stick to it. I have known an animator who drank Chinese medicine and ate instant noodles and worked overtime until the stomach ptosis. After the failure of a movie, he had to switch to the advertising industry. The experience of failure and the experience of success can greatly improve the next one. The root of the success rate of this work is not inherited, and the so-called industrial system is the inheritance of these experiences.
Nagging about these is not selling miserably. It is only after so many years of personal experience that I dare to sigh that Chinese comics are not easy.
3) Chinese elements: The future cities in our movies are designed based on Guangzhou and Shanghai, but some people still say that there are no Chinese elements.
We deliberately don't hang red lanterns, and deliberately don't use some elements that seem to be "Chinese elements" at first glance-because Chinese elements should not only be equated with antiquity, this is our great selfishness.
We have made a lot of futuristic attempts with Chinese elements, which are in line with our expressive habits and try to be understood by global audiences, such as music, using electric guitars to interpret the anti-score methods of Shaw Brothers movies; such as the war. Arrangement, we combined the upgrade logic in martial arts novels with mecha fighting; for example, the mother and daughter use different methods to miss dad, but they never talk about it...
Cultural gaps must exist, but the overlapping parts of cultures are greater, and we are constantly working hard to find the overlapping parts. Some attempts succeed, some attempts fail, but if you don't try, you will never succeed.
Although there are various ups and downs in the process, although there are always bumps and bumps in the first creation, whenever someone understands the binary code on Dr. Mi’s computer, whenever someone understands the growth of wheat, when there is an audience In a private message, he said that when his child with autism had brushed it 8 times... it could bring a little happiness and a little comfort to some people's lives, and it would be a great honor to be 7723 for some people in his lifetime. These moments will become a beacon to illuminate the creative road and encourage us to continue exploring and sailing.
