Those who play the law are not praiseworthy

This film reminds me of Mr. Wilder's "Prosecution Witness". The most common feature of the two films is that the protagonists are people who are good at manipulating the law by various means. The difference is that the former has sympathy and support for this because the protagonist does it for the country. But here I want to ask: should a person who has played with the law-no matter what-should be praised?

After watching the movie, it is not difficult for us to find that this case is definitely not the case of the lieutenant colonel’s wife derailing, and the lieutenant colonel’s "furious confession", but a long-planned and well-planned case. Below I will discuss the motivation and process of the entire case from several aspects:

1. The protagonist, Lieutenant Colonel Rust found out that the top government officials were collectively planning a scam against the country-collecting rebates through the acquisition of scrapped British aircraft carriers. At this time, he was murderous towards the arms dealer Vitram. why? According to the Lieutenant Colonel’s explanation to Inspector Robb, the “problem carrier” was not allowed to enter the country. But the question is, will the arms dealer who kills the intermediary stop it? Will the government and foreign companies complete transactions through other channels? This obviously cannot stand. So the only explanation is for personal gain. When asked to buy it for one million, the lieutenant colonel asked how much rebate Vitram would receive from it. It stands to reason that if he is really dedicated to the country, he should directly refuse without asking. So the truth is that he is not satisfied with one million, but wants to get 50 million.

2. When Vitram gave the Lieutenant Colonel’s wife the car, he did not refuse, and after talking to the Minister of Defense, he remained silent. I believe he is fortunate that the Minister wants to transfer him away, so take this opportunity Induce his wife to derail Vitlam. Most of the people sympathized with him because his wife had betrayed him, but in fact he was not worthy of sympathy at all, because he took the initiative to put on the green hat. Is it worth it? In the end, he not only squeezed 50 million dollars in fortune from the colonel, but also reaped the loyalty of his wife. What's not worth it? When he played chess with the police inspector, he didn't say: The ultimate goal is to win. As long as he can win, all means are worthwhile (even the "Queen" can be discarded). I even suspect that his wife's testimony was fabricated under his instruction, after all, it is guilty!

3. The reason why he was able to be released without guilt is that on the one hand, he has carefully planned, on the other hand, it is also an "assistance" from the media-when the newspaper boss finds him and wants to help him and he refuses, he already knows that public opinion is on his side Up. The media (newspapers) publicized "violent news" on a large scale, cheering for the protagonist and at the same time diverting the public's attention, making him ignore evidence that is unfavorable to the protagonist. The media that leads public opinion should have become the eyes of the people to discover the truth, but at this moment it has become a tool for individuals to seek benefits. In reality, how many media dare to ask themselves that they have never distorted the facts for personal gain? Under the "live broadcast", we are farther and farther away from reality.

I'm not standing for the colonel and Vitlam, they are bad guys, that's right. But you guys, not all the bad guys are the good guys. His plan is not because of patriotism, but because of love for self and profit. Taking a step back, even if he is really patriotic, what can be more "national interest" than the justice of the law? Don't "stick gold" to your face, play with the law, and despise justice. Even if he has thousands of reasons, he should not be sympathized or praised.
