Movie experience: like an outsider but embracing despair with the character

It’s not a particularly good-looking movie, but it’s very calm and comfortable. It’s like gradually sinking into the water with the story. You may feel a little suffocating, but you know you won’t die, but you are like an outsider. Embrace despair with the character.

I watched this movie a few years ago and I just felt so peaceful. The director shut down my senses through the story. The whole process seemed to be sinking at the bottom of the lake and looking at everything on the water through the blue-green lake. This gave me a sense of despair. The feeling that the weight of life can be determined in one day, the thought of this inevitably makes my heart tense.

This movie revolves around Anders, who is about to expire from drug treatment. One day when he was 34 years old, he got a job interview opportunity. On this day, when he arrived in town, there were three people he wanted to meet and one person he had to meet.
Anders wanted to try to live a brand new life, but before that, he had to seek a reason to live from these four people; however, as one meeting after another ended, he felt more guilty for those who had failed.
At the age of 34, Anders felt that his life was over.

I like the tone of this movie very much, but rather than "this one", I actually like the style of director Joachim Trier. Similar to "Remembering", the stories are desperate or sad, but The director deliberately arranged for the dazzling weather under such an atmosphere, and the warm sun could be vaguely seen under the cold lens.

I think of my own life experience. Whenever I think it is the worst day of my life, the weather is always unexpectedly good. Unlike most movies, the sky does not accompany me to grief.
And on this 34-year-old day, what greeted Anders full of guilt was the gentle sunshine in Oslo.

Anders first met Thomas, a friend who had been fooling around with him. He was also at the age of thirty. Thomas had already achieved a successful career and had his own family. He thought he could get some comfort from his old friends, but he didn't expect to get all he could get. .

After bidding farewell to an old friend, it was the job interview that was arranged. I originally believed that the drug-taking past could go back to zero with everything, but the traces left behind can’t be washed away. Only by facing it upright can it be true. Let those become history, the real start again.
But Anders never wanted to face his past, because he was still in the past.

As the meeting draws to a close, Anders understands how much influence his past has brought to the people around him; his sister is unwilling to see him, and the old lover has not been able to contact him, and the style of the whole film has also changed from the original despair to the very desperate. Direct emotions.

Anders is no longer sneaking in the face of alcohol, he no longer refuses to show his good girl, he decisively steal money to buy drugs, he is no longer bound by the rules of going out at night...
Everything in the past and the pressure it brought was not released with Anders' actions, but fell to a deeper bottom of the lake, and the pressure gradually increased with the depth.
Anders stood in the center of Echo Square and screamed implicitly. However, the pressure that was originally hoped to be released through screaming, not only did not disappear, but like an echo, it returned to himself again.

A girl in a coffee shop said excitedly, her words full of excitement, as if these dreams would come true after she said this string of words.
Anders listened while drinking coffee not far away. He didn't respond. He just listened quietly, without frowning or smiling at the corners of his mouth. He just touched the coffee cup and listened to the passage.

34-year-old Anders, his life is over.
His senses, his life, and his heart have already sunk at the bottom of the lake that is not known how deep, the lake is blue, as if something is moving, so the silt at the bottom of the lake is also active...
Have you seen Anders?
I'm not sure if I actually saw him.

The subject matter is not new, but it can be watched. In addition to the beautiful photography, the male protagonist's expression is also very interesting. It would be better if time or characters were added a few more lines to advance, three and a half stars.

I just feel helpless after watching it. Can't death be changed?

Oslo, August 31st quotes

  • Anders: Look at my life. I'm 34 years old. I've got nothing. I don't want to start from scratch.

  • Anders: He taught me to bike, row, how you can exceed speed limit by 20% without getting busted. 60 at 50, 108 at 90. She spoke of adult matters in English. She taught me to always floss. To put things back where they belong. They hated reactionaries, but waited years before buying a VCR. They were both from Oslo, remembered places we passed. Slightly deaf, he insisted on hearing the absurd: What do you think is best? Got waffles on your chest? They thought intellectual achievement was superior to sports success. They were sympathetic to celebrities who protected their privacy. They made me a critical reader, comtemptuous of the less eloquent. But anyone i brought home got a warm welcome. They never missed the evening news. He took a test, then proudly told us he had an artistic personality. He said people who valued military experience were dull. She held a tolerant view on drugs. He wanted to ban barbecuing in parks. Democracy was just the best alternative. She thought Bardot should help people, not animals. They respected my privacy. Maybe too much. They taught me religion is a weakness. I don't know if i agree. They never taught me to cook or to build a relationship, but they seemed happy. They never told me how friendship dissolves. Until you're strangers, friends in name only. They let me be picky about food. She said I could do as I wished. Decide what to be, who to love, where to live. They would always help me. They were stricter with my sister than me.
