China's rise

After reading it, I realized that this is the third part of the old "Five Steps of the Apes". I immediately became interested in this series, and decided to start from the first one to enjoy it. It's really an old film. This third film was released in 1971. When I think of these people in orangutan suits jumping about in the movie, I am not even born yet, it feels very strange.

The first half of the film is quite interesting. The ape couple Konis and Ziri are full of personality and charm. Even if the makeup techniques at the time were awkward and simple, they did not affect their humorous expression at all. The latter part is heavy and sad, and there is actually the concept of time-traveling destiny, which is really powerful.

There is a section of news broadcasts in various countries, in English, French, and Japanese...I thought divergently: If I remake it now, I will definitely add a Chinese broadcast. You know, now there are Britneys in "King Kong"! Thinking about it this way, national pride emerges spontaneously. Inexplicably, I saw the rise of Greater China in the rise of the Apes.

It retains the pessimism about human nature in the original sci-fi works, and plays a wake-up role. But in the process of getting along with human beings, he is still quite optimistic and civilized. Although at the end... the rare portrayal of political figures is very thoughtful and brainy. The two human male protagonists look good.

Escape from the Planet of the Apes quotes

  • Tailor: May I measure your inside leg, sir?

    Cornelius: No.

  • Chairman of the President's Committee of Inquiry: [testing Lewis's assertion that the apes can speak] What is your name?

    Dr. Zira: Zira.

Chairman of the President's Committee of Inquiry: One might as well be talking to a parrot.

    Dr. Zira: A parrot?

Chairman of the President's Committee of Inquiry: What did I tell you? Mechanical mimicry. Unique in an ape, vocally, without a doubt, but... does the other one talk?

Cornelius: Only when she lets me.
