Sand Castle
I watched this film drop from 7.3 to 6 on IMDB (smiling). To be honest, I really rarely watch war movies. This is also the first movie I watched with the Iraq War as the background. For me as a story-controller, it is really difficult to watch, because it is more like a documentary from the perspective of a grassroots soldier than a drama movie.
The plot is particularly simple. During the Iraq War, Ocre's team was sent to repair the water pump in the enemy area. After many difficulties, the mission...failed...the entire team was only left with Ocre (the protagonist halo) and the captain.
The American soldier Ocre played by Nizi was timid and weak. He served as a soldier just to earn tuition, and to escape the war with his hand in the car door... It is rare that Nizi, as a 28-year-old native Englishman, treats an 18- to 9-year-old Englishman. The American boy's performance is unobtrusive. Although timid, he has his own ideas. For the first time in actual combat, he was frightened and vomited in his tinnitus. After the sacrifice of his teammates, although he was resentful, he was helpless. Especially the eyes of a clean and energetic young man who has fear of war and has a brilliant light of wisdom.
I think the biggest highlight of this film lies in its truthfulness. It does not deify or beautify, not belittle or sarcasm, but this is also the biggest flaw. After reading "House of Cards", I have a deeper sympathy and understanding for these grassroots soldiers. Perhaps a politician said for their own political interests, and an order they gave would require them to fight for their lives.
There are two scenes that shocked me the most in the whole film. The first was the principal who secretly helped the Americans repair the water pump and was scorched by the locals the next day and hung on the pillar. The faucet is turned on and off, and turned on and off.
After watching it, I kept wondering why this movie is called Sandcastle? It wasn't until the wet and dry sand at the end of the film that reminded me that the place where the water pump was located was a sand castle. War is so meaningless and cruel.
