For all the answers you expect, the film will not give you a clear answer, it just tells a simple story. If you are anti-warism or heroism, then you will not find resonance in the film. Compared with many movies that insist on imposing their own values on you, watching sand castles is more neutral and free.
There are a few interesting points in my memory. The engineer asked Private, did you not go to college? The soldier replied that it was too expensive. The engineer asked again, isn’t it free to go to college? Privates are curious, do you all go to college for free? Then answer, American universities are not free, and the United States needs money for everything. . . . The Chinese asked the privates why they came here. The privates replied that my father joined the army and my grandfather joined the army. Before that, the privates tried to escape the war by self-harm. . . .
Nowadays, anti-establishment and anti-heroism are more popular. I personally believe that this kind of film will be a clear stream in the future. I don't want to educate the audience. Even the space for imagination is very limited for the audience.
