Charming boyhood

I watched the castrated version of this film in China. There is a 20-minute swimming episode missing, but it doesn't affect the feeling of the whole film. The heroine is very handsome. For me as the only child, I really envy her and her sister's little understanding, so warm! The film only lasts for a summer vacation. The girls in it are very good. The girl at that age always knows more than the boys. Finally, after Laure regained her identity as a girl and introduced herself to Lisa again, the two looked at each other. It’s so sweet, the best time is about to begin, and the film ends here. It’s great.

I can’t help but remind me of "Blue Door". The ignorant youth is really the most fascinating time. At that time, the love is pure and enthusiastic regardless of return. The best youth films should be fixed in the most beautiful time, for a long time. It's boring.

I started living in school when I was in junior high school, cut a tomboy head, and slowly began to look like a boy. I didn’t like to wear girls’ clothes. I always went to the US to buy the smallest men’s clothing. I could sing all Jay Chou’s fast songs. In the afternoon, I will play basketball after class. In the evening, I will hide in the last row of the classroom and eat instant noodles for my self-study. Fortunately, there was a group of particularly good "buddies" around me at that time, so I didn't think it was any strange. In physical education class, our group of tomboys team up to play basketball with real boys. With the advantage of being faster than men of the same age, we can be handsome while scoring. So in the film, Laure plays with boys and fights with boys are not weak at all. I feel the same. Abandoning gender prejudice, girls and boys can have the same ability in many fields.

This film is very real. Like Laure in the film, I think there are many girls who want to be boys when they are young. This mentality is not actually disidentification of one's own gender, but a desire to break through the various restrictions that gender identity brings to individuals in the traditional dualistic society of both sexes. Girls want to do things traditionally believed that boys like to do, there is nothing wrong with them, but they often want to achieve their goals, they can only do it by disguising themselves as a boy, or let Laure wear a skirt. Going to fight a little boy, it's hard to imagine.

Most of the youth movies I've seen before are about handsome male protagonists playing basketball, and then gentle and demure female protagonists stepped forward to hand water, but this is not my youth at all. In my story, the heroic layup scored a layup. It was a girl who screamed in the audience! So I found this film by accident and it really moved me.

Thinking back to the tomboy’s teenage years, it was so charming and beautiful.

No "brothers", no basketball

Tomboy quotes

  • La mère de Lisa: Lisa?

    Lisa: Yes?

La mère de Lisa: Come here. This is Mickäel's mum. She's come here to say Mickäel is not actually Mickäel but a girl, not a boy. She's waiting for you in the kitchen.

  • Rayan: [subtitled version]

    [to Laure]

Rayan: We hear you're a girl. We're gonna check that.

Lisa: Stop it! What do you think you're doing?

Rayan: We're gonna check if she's really a girl.

    Lisa: Leave him alone.

    Rayan: You're right. It's YOU who'll check.

    Lisa: No, I won't.

Rayan: If she's a girl, then you kissed her. It's disgusting. Right?

    Lisa: Yes, it's disgusting.

Rayan: Then, you're gonna do it.
