The story takes place in the prosperous metropolis of New York, where Marty (Ernest Borgnine) is a butcher’s worker who lives in it. He has no handsome appearance, no wealthy wealth, and the only thing he has. It is a kind heart that gleams like gold. In life, Marty, who lives in the neighborhoods where the middle and lower-class poor people live, is often stunned and discriminated against by others. For all this, Marty can only endure silently.
By chance, Marty met a female teacher named Clara (played by Betsy Blair). Like Marty, Clara became inferior and introverted because of a failed relationship.
