"Red Circle" is a film filmed since 1970, starring the young Alain Delon. Alandron was the actor of Zorro, the well-known French lover of that era.
He is born with a melancholy and unruly temperament, his face has few expressions, even a little cold, but occasionally pursing his mouth, it will still make countless people obsessed, everyone seems to believe that he is actually just a layer of coldness. Wrapped in his shell, in fact, he has a fiery passion in his heart.
His temperament is similar to that of all Melville movies. Because of this, Melville chose to cooperate with him many times. It can be said that their cooperation is a process of complementing each other and complementing each other.
The film tells the story of the prisoner played by Alain Delon escaping from the train, and met a robber hiding in his trunk, but by mistake, the two men began to cherish each other after saving each other’s lives, planning to find a sharpshooter. They robbed the jewelry store together, but after the incident happened, three people were killed by the police one after another.
The term "red circle" is derived from an allusion. It is said that Siddhartha, the Buddha, once drew a circle with red stone and said: "Although people didn't know at first, they will meet one day. Even if they meet in different life They are on different paths. On a certain day, they will eventually meet in the red circle."
This also implies that the film has a fatalistic and black tone. People have "karma", and the "karma" they make brings them together. A person cannot escape his fate anyway. It may be alive or it may be death.
The prisoner is a fugitive, he is a habitual thief, so he can escape from the train smoothly.
And after such a fugitive encountered a robber who fled into his trunk to avoid police chase on the road, he did not kill him or report him. Instead, he helped him escape the hunt without asking him for any return.
It can be said that the prisoner is a person who speaks very much about "justice". In his view, the theft of the jewelry store is just taking away the wealth of the rich, and he has done nothing wrong. When he met a robber who was also a fallen man in the end of the world, his generous help was also in line with the "rules of the way."
As a result, the robber's "brotherhood" toward him was exchanged, and the prisoner was saved in time when he was nearly killed in danger. In this way, the two people reached a consensus of "friendship" in a cigarette that they received each other. Although there are not a few words in the whole process, we can see in the shots given by the director that the eyes of both sides have changed from dodge and doubt from the beginning to trust and enthusiasm. From this beginning with cigarettes, their destinies began to be intertwined.
The prisoner told the robbers that he had a business, which could be divided into a large sum of money, and the robbers happily joined in. But they needed someone who could accurately hit the door lock from a few tens of meters away, so the third character, the sharpshooter, appeared.
The sharpshooter played by Yves Montan is definitely one of the most memorable characters in this film. Although he doesn't play much time, he has a very rich personality.
He was lying on the bed when he first appeared, with a bunch of insects surrounding him. At first it was ants and crickets. Later came more kinds of insects, spiders, cockroaches, and praying mantises. One after another, one after another, he climbed up his legs, his arms, and his neck, while he watched but moved. Can't move either. Suddenly there was a scream, and we knew it was just a nightmare for him.
The sweaty sharpshooter got up from the cramped bed. Only then did we see the whole picture of this apartment, with dark colors, dirty wallpapers, and a few standing suitcases on the ground, with a vertical rod hanging in the middle. A few pieces of clothes, and all his belongings in the other box. It can be seen that this is a person who can close the box and leave at any time. And beside the bed are piled up with wine bottles, all kinds of wine bottles of different heights.
What a downfall, how poor, and distressing people this is. He was washing his face indiscriminately, staring at himself in the mirror, as if he couldn't believe that this person was himself. At this moment, he received a call from the prisoner to ask him to meet, so he happily went to the appointment.
When he reappeared, he was completely gone. The long windbreaker without a trace of folds matched the upright body, and he was wearing an appropriate hat. The image of this character becomes three-dimensional all at once.
The prisoner and the sharpshooter negotiated the details of the cooperation. During the chat, we learned that the sharpshooter was originally a policeman, but was expelled from the police station because of alcoholism. Then they bought the equipment, made a plan, and went to the jewelry store to rob.
There was no dialogue during the subsequent robbery, which lasted for half an hour. The director used cold and restrained shots and some environmental sound effects to perfectly restore a robbery scene full of tension and dramatic tension, allowing the audience to be on the scene. Until now, it has been regarded as a "textbook-like demonstration lens."
And the most memorable moment was this scene: the sharpshooter set his rifle on a tripod and aimed at the alarm sensor. From the lens, we can see that there is no doubt. At this time, he and his companion exchanged glances, suddenly took the gun off the tripod, aimed and shot himself. With a "touch", he steadily hit the bullseye. Although we can't see his face clearly when he wears the mask, we can still feel that behind the mask he must be smiling proudly because of his confidence and courage.
When everything was ready and the prisoners and robbers began to collect the loot, the sharpshooter just stood quietly, enjoying the moment that belonged to him. We saw him take out the wine in his pocket, sniffed it close to his masked nose, and then put it back in his pocket. He should be so intoxicated and obsessed, then he stayed for a while and then left. When he returned to the apartment again, we could see him staring into the dark wardrobe and smiling.
The nightmare in his heart disappeared. It was friendship that saved him, and it was also the opportunity to prove himself again that saved him. From then on, it was destined that he would use his loyalty and dedication to thank these two friends for rebirth.
When the three people thought everything would get better, the truth emerged. It turned out that everything was fake and a scam. When the prisoner was trading with the "buyer", the robber kicked the door and told him to run quickly and was shot to death. The sharpshooter who was waiting outside was also shot dead instantly. As the leader of this robbery, the prisoner, he never escaped the fate of being killed. He died after one shot.
The whole process happened very quickly and ended very quickly. There are not too many sensational passages, few lines of dialogue, and even no explanation of what happened behind them. They fall like fallen leaves, and no one cares.
The three protagonists are all alone, wandering lonely on the edge of good and evil, walking alone, fighting against the whole world alone. The police will only "use violence to counter violence," and there is no god to save them. They didn't talk much, they wrapped themselves in long windbreakers, and even had very few expressions on their faces, all with a cold expression on their faces. And like this, they still adhere to the "friendship" and "morality" among men, which makes us feel a touch of warmth under their cold skin.
Compared with the kind of people in the old Paris in the movie, everyone is dressed luxuriously and elegantly. In the café, the women are smoking cigarettes for fashion, but they are like walking puppets. There is no trace of soul. The three people who are depressed, marginalized, and dangerous make people feel more flesh-and-blood, restrained and tender.
Each of them had their own motives, and they even did different things, but their destiny still kept them together, and finally died together. "You will have to pay it back sooner or later." The "karma" they created can only be repaid by their own destiny. Although there are "benevolence and righteousness" and "loyalty" buried under the coldness, they have been destined since they chose this path. Therefore, they have no chance of "salvation" in this life.
This film can talk too much, which is why both directors Wu Yusen and Du Qifeng like it very much. It is also regarded as a "near perfect" crime movie.
Since this movie, many "police movies", "action movies", and "gangster movies" have been stained with its shadow, benevolence, friendship, loyalty, and brotherhood. It can be said that this is a great movie.
