I can't tell if the added comedy is good or not. It really dilutes a very serious proposition, but in the character line, Hoffman's redemption is too much to go back to the conflict in the drama itself. It doesn't matter whether the audience is judged by God or the devil is tortured by the soul. A good topic and correction is really crucial. Of course you have to have such an actor first.
Passenger: [the plane crashes and Bernie stares at it wide-eyed] Please help us!
Bernie LaPlante: These are $100 dollar shoes!
