The corner of life, the desire to live

A poor, widow and retired civil servant ran into a wall everywhere trying to survive. In despair, only the beloved puppy awakened his desire for life.

The people do not live their lives, and the demonstrations are expelled, mocking the government's inaction.
The upper echelons are polite and honest, and they are embarrassing. The female homeowner is selfish and sings songs every night. The good life of the upper class counteracts the hardships of the underlings.

Around money, the story unfolds and develops. Female homeowners are money-oriented and indifferent, which directly leads the elderly to sell watches to raise rents and sell books to continue to raise money. It costs money to save a puppy to be slaughtered (this part is hidden in the film, but it can be seen from the sales office that slaughter is inevitable if the price is not compatible). Borrowing money will have to capsize. The principle problem of asking for money is still Give it to the prime of life, the money for fostering a puppy is more expensive than for a parent.

Sympathy is also a luxury, and comes from a small person with a similar fate. Another character in the film, the maid M, is also a miserable person. She was unmarried with a scumbag and got pregnant first, so she couldn't get family support. She doesn't even have a maid's room and sleeps in the aisle. Once the pregnancy is exposed, you will be unemployed. So where will she go?

For the elderly, a thermometer, a biscuit, a banana, and a cake warm people's hearts, but they can't hold back their fate. Finally, you still have to bow your head. Remember the first two comedic "haha" with the landlady facing the door? As the plot develops, no amount of hope will leak light like an hourglass.

At the beginning, the protagonist was full of confrontational spirit, and even after being discharged from the hospital, he was full of energy and his actions became brisk and powerful. However, under a series of real blows, he dragged a heavy and exhausted figure and left the place where he had lived for decades with great difficulty. Here, a long, slowly moving shadow is used to suggest the old man's difficult parting. On the tram, he looked at the room where he had lived for most of his life, from low to high angle of view, suggesting a lowly status, praying for fate to take care of him.

In the film, two kinds of people are used to contrast the character of the elderly. One is to rub the hospital welfare, which will cause troubles; the other is to reach out for money straightforwardly. The old man, as a strong third person, went to the hospital until he couldn't survive his illness. He handed the trivial matter of begging to the innocent puppy. The film praised his integrity and strong self-esteem.

As a puppy of a community with a shared future for the elderly, it is not only a family member, but also a dependency. When the old man was too busy to take care of himself, a close-up shot of the track accompanied by the roar of trams suggested a strong sense of tragedy. In the end, amidst the roar of the train, at the critical moment of life and death, the puppy instinctively showed the desire to live and turned the old man's thoughts around. It's easy to die, but not easy to live. Dogs are strong and humans should be too. This also directly guides the direction of the ending. To survive in desperate situations, you can only see hope when you are alive.
