Bruce Lee became a giant in the Asian film industry by breaking box office records for Kung Fu movies four times. His fifth movie "Game of Death" is also his most creative one. His martial arts philosophy is integrated into the performance and plot of the movie. Unfortunately, he passed away before the film was closed, leaving only 100 minutes of precious shots. The script, synopsis, and footage were all scattered. However, because of the huge box office revenue of Bruce Lee's movie, the producers used less than 12 minutes of material and their own script to complete the film with Bruce Lee-like stand-ins, photo editing, and other special effects. The movie released under the name of Bruce Lee in 1978 is actually quite different from what Bruce Lee himself originally wanted to shoot.

Li's intention was to gather the best martial artists in the world to make an unprecedented kung fu film. In 1994, when editing Bruce Lee's notes and texts, the producer, director, and writer John W. Lito discovered the original script, design sketches and even more movie footage of "Game of Death." With the support of Bruce Lee's widow Linda and Warner Productions, he began to remake "Game of Death" with Bruce Lee's ideas. "Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey" is full of John. Lito's hard work. This semi-documentary and semi-feature film excavated from the missing lens conveys a philosophical and historical message, which is more sublimated than the original. The film is interspersed with footage of Bruce Lee’s past interviews and clips of him as a special guest on the TV show "The Blind Murder", as well as interviews with people who participated in the production of "Game of Death." This film became John. A masterpiece by Lito. After a quarter of a century, everyone can finally see "Game of Death" appearing on the screen as Bruce Lee imagined back then. In Linda’s words: “Twenty-eight years after Bruce Lee stopped filming "Game of Death", I can finally say that I am proud of the film. Over the years I have only mentioned the four films Bruce Lee filmed in Hong Kong. Now I don’t have to Avoid talking about "Game of Death" again, thanks to John Lito’s creativity and imagination, and the support behind Warner Productions. Xiaolong’s work is now reborn again." The re-made game of death, in Chang In the 100-minute movie, there are 50 minutes of splendid battle scenes and a lot of precious video materials. The film won a grand prize at an international film festival, and John Lito made "Game of Death" a complete work!

On November 27, 2000, the world premiere of "Game of Death" was held in Hong Kong to commemorate the 60th birthday of Bruce Lee! The plot of "Bruce Lee: Game of Death" is that the family of a martial arts master (played by Bruce Lee) was kidnapped and taken hostage. As a condition of redeeming the hostages, the master was forced to go to a five-story tower located in a certain place. Hit the tower to create a pass, and seize a "secret treasure" hidden on the top of the tower. Go all the way through and be born to death. The closer you are to the top level, the stronger your opponent will be. Unfold a veritable "game of death".

Before the actual shooting, Bruce Lee personally drew the design sketches for the five-story tower in the film. It also explained the "master gate" situation on each floor in both Chinese and English: Outside the tower is guarded by a group of kung fu warriors; on the first floor of the tower, the martial arts star disciple Huang Renzhi (who used "Playing a Japanese karate samurai) guarded; the second floor "Leopard Hall", guarded by the mantis sect masters; the third floor "Tiger Hall", guarded by "Philippine Club King" Dan Yilu Sando; the fourth floor "Dragon" The temple is guarded by the Korean Aikido master Chi Hanzai; the fifth floor of the nameless hall, which is also the most difficult one, is guarded by the 2.23-meter NBA "sky hook" black giant Jabbar. In Bruce Lee's plan, boxing champion Ali will also be invited to perform. In order to make the martial arts scene more exciting! He also pioneered the personal style of competing with different martial arts gates for the first time... In the

end, Bruce Lee defeated five masters just like he had overcome many difficulties in his life. When he reached the top of the tower, he saw a box. Regarding the ending of the film, there have always been two theories. One is that after Bruce Lee opened the box, he found that there was only a piece of paper in the box, which read: Life is a process of waiting for death. Another way of saying it is that there is a mirror in the box, looking inside, of course you can only see yourself. What Bruce Lee wants to say is that people always like to look outside, but they don't know that power and truth are actually in their hearts. The process of getting this understanding is Bruce Lee's life and death struggles with different masters. It symbolizes various experiences in life. The soul is the embryo of the human body. The day of death is the time of awakening, and the spirit will be eternal and immortal.

In the film, Bruce Lee, Tian Jun, and Chen Yuan are the three masters who are ordered to jointly fight the tower and attack the top floor. Among them, Li has the highest effort and is often the last shot. Tian and Chen are jealous and unconvinced of Bruce Lee's superb martial arts in the play, but they have to rely on Li to help create a pass. The relationship between the three is quite subtle. When approaching the top level, Tian and Chen actually took advantage of Bruce Lee's death to fight the enemy one after another, leaving Li aside and taking the lead in slipping to the top and trying to make the first step, but they were all killed by Jabbar in the end. It was Li who finally won and defeated all the powerful enemies, and finally dragged his tired body and scars, and staggered underground.

The special "ally" relationship of the three tower masters implicitly alludes to the truth that certain people in the martial arts world are not united, driven by profit, and abandoned their friends, and ultimately self-destruct. The film expresses Bruce Lee's originality! It is full of allegorical meanings, similar to Kurosawa Akira's style, and inspired by the seven-story Buddha statue in Buddhism.
Bruce Lee not only has profound martial arts attainments, but also a great thinker and artist. He read all the philosophical masterpieces, ancient and modern, both at home and abroad. Some people say that "the 20th century is an era of vicissitudes and heroes" Bruce Lee is one of them!

Game of Death quotes

  • Hai Tien: [Original Dialouge] Do you speak any Enlgish?

3rd Floor Guardian: Of course I speak English.

Hai Tien: I hope you don't mind if we move our man so we could have more room to groove.

3rd Floor Guardian: But... Have your men stay as far away from the stairway as possible

Hai Tien: [as Tien moves an unconscious Cheh out of the way Hai Tien prepares to fight with his bamboo whip] You know baby, this bamboo is longer, more flexible and very much alive, and if your flashy routine cannot keep up with the speed and elusiveness of this thing here, all I can say is you will be in deep trouble.

3rd Floor Guardian: That we will have to find out.

Hai Tien: [during the fight Hai Tien gains the upper hand] I am telling you it is difficult to have a rehearsed routine to fit in with broken rhythm

[they fight and Hai Tien hits yhe guardian again]

Hai Tien: see, rehearsed routines, lack the flexibility to adapt.
