Do things you don't like, how can you be happy

Finally I took time to watch "Yi Yi" again. The first time I watched it was the year it won the award. Then in 2007, director Yang Dechang died of illness. I don't know if I was Wen Qing at that time, and I was very sad when Director Yang passed away. Wen Qing said a little bit: Seeing the news of the death, I felt that I was also a little bit dead. The important thing is said three times. The first time I have said it in this film review "Guling Street Juvenile Murder Incident":

If only one is chosen, Yang Dechang is my favorite director of Chinese-language films. He made eight and a half films. Movies, and the fact that the people are dead, put an end to the possibility of bad movies in the future, and it can be concluded.

"Gu" is my favorite movie. From the narrative, it delicately expresses an era, in addition to Hou Xiaoxian's hometown, it gives another Taiwan, the Taiwan of people from other provinces. Moreover, more importantly, he transcended the times. He photographed the common characteristics of boys and girls in adolescence-which is why the film is also popular in the international community. It is not easy to do this. Jiang Wen wrote in "Sunny He also did it in "Days". Although it was a memory of the Cultural Revolution, he also expressed the vanity, perplexity, rebellion of adolescence, as well as the weakness and helplessness that everyone didn't want to mention. Therefore, beyond the era and cultural background, it can resonate widely.

"Gu" tells the tragedy of a teenager who is incompatible with society, while "Yi Yi" goes to a higher level, telling a story of a middle-aged person who has been incompatible with society from his youth to the middle age. The difference is that this middle-aged man was forced to do After a compromise, instead of stabbing his lover with a knife, he chose to escape. "Yi Yi" is actually the life of most ordinary people. When I first saw it, I was in my twenties. While I was deeply moved, there was a kind of despair in my life, and my mood was once gray. Now I am in my thirties, establishing my own family, and experiencing various aspects of life more deeply, only to feel the calmness and calmness that Yang Dechang expressed in it. This film aims to explore the meaning of life and the helplessness of people in the face of fate. But as long as you face life, have something to rely on, and have some persistence, you can feel the true meaning in the ordinary.

What will be the most memorable thing in a person's life? It's nothing more than birth, old age, sickness and death. First love and kisses, weddings, births, deaths, and some impressive moments in the so-called "career". This is the life of a person.

"Yi Yi" takes the Taipei middle-class man Jian Nanjun as the main line, tells the real and ordinary life of himself and his family and friends around him, complete splicing the life of Ji Guang Kataba from childhood to old age. Yang Dechang's films are known for their truthfulness and profound ideology. He can always see and extract meanings from ordinary events in ordinary life and express them to the audience. In terms of expression, Yang's films are all narrative poems. Unlike Hou Xiaoxian's films, Yang Dechang belongs to a technological stream. The complexity of the film structure (multiple clues but not confusing) and the lens language are perfect to leave people speechless.

When I watched "Yi Yi" for the first time, I was in my twenties and I was most impressed by Tingting’s broken relationship. She was lying on the bed of her grandmother who had become a vegetative. The world is so unfair. She is a middle school student, in a rigorous and traditional family, she worked hard to enter a girls' school that everyone admired, and she was very involved when she started the first love story in her life. She is kind and beautiful, but not as precocious as the neighbor girl Lily. She fell in love and soon fell out of love. She didn't want to lose love while also losing friends. But the world is not as simple as she thought. I saw someone analyzing the plot and saying that "Fatty" (the object of her first love, Lily's ex-boyfriend) killed the English teacher because he suspected that the English teacher had an affair with Lily. I don't think so. I think Lily used her charm and love to instigate him to kill the English teacher who committed adultery with his mother. He helped Lily finish it, not out of love's jealousy (out of jealousy should kill Ke Yulun) but out of sacrifice for love.

Tingting still doesn't understand that society is so complicated and love has so much pain. But she started to get in touch, psychologically very, very resistant, so she cried weakly. However, this is growth. People grow up a bit after every time they cry.
The same is true for me. Accepting the real society is the only way for a person to mature, but this process is accompanied by huge doubts, pain, self-doubt, disappointment, and even despair.

In contrast, Yangyang’s love is even simpler. He will deliberately offend the little girl he likes, watch her swimming secretly, imitate her swimming (almost drowning), Yangyang likes to shoot people behind and ask him why, He said, because you can't see behind yourself, so I took a picture for you to see. Yangyang is the magical touch of the whole film, but there is no need to over-interpret this innocent and philosophical sentence.

The narrative of the film narrates Tingting's first love, while the scenes are staggered, which complements the love story of his father, Jian Nanjun. His first love and his daughter did the same thing. He took the boys to open the house and wanted to keep the man in the first night. As a result, the two boys in different time and space both fled. Jian Nanjun later confessed to his wife the experience of dating an old lover during a business trip in Japan. He sincerely said that I thought it would be different if I chose it again, but it turned out that it would still be the same.

I understand, NJ said to his first love on the last night in Japan, I have never loved another woman. I think this is an ambiguous lie. NJ loved his first love. It was the love of middle school students. Like Tingting's love, it is romantic, illusory, and beautiful. It stays in the air. Once he meets a little bit of reality, she will fall apart---she is worried that he will become a poor and cool literary youth in the future, hoping that she will study electrical engineering (I wiped it, I was just forced to take the postgraduate entrance examination, and even the major was determined. Very desperate), the family also hopes that he will study electrical machinery. Now she has been divorced and her family is enough for a few lives, so she is looking for love again, but her starting point is: I don't worry about money anymore, I want love. So in NJ's view, it is no different from thirty years ago.

NJ has never loved other women. His love ended when he was eighteen years old. The relationship with women and society has ended. The next thing is to live day by day. Live unhappy. He was silent throughout the film and was not happy. Only when I plugged in the headphones and closed my eyes to listen to music, I saw a little relaxation. Therefore, he told the vegetative mother-in-law that sometimes I woke up in the morning and finally fell asleep. Why did I wake up? Why did I wake up? Faced with so many troubles, so many things. Don't wake up like this, how nice.

Similarly, when he returned home late at night and saw his wife Minmin crying alone, he was silent. He didn't walk to hug her, nor could he speak comforting words. I guess he felt this kind of emptiness and despair a long time ago. Min Min followed the monk to Qingxiu, and when he returned, the vegetative mother-in-law (Min Min's mother) had passed away. She herself said that Qingxiu was actually not helpful. (Yes, you have to donate money to the monk's temple)

The film begins with a wedding and ends with a funeral. Both the wedding and the funeral are the same hypocritical person. Adi’s friend and classmate "America" are clamoring. I don’t know if there is any metaphor for this name. At the wedding of his wife and brother, NJ didn't say a word except to accompany the guests. At the funeral, his classmate and colleague said, "You should come back to the company, or if you see it right, TMD went in again." Ugh. . . I also had a very unhappy TMD. He said: Yes, how can you be happy if you do things you don't like all day?

And as a result, he couldn't stop and do what he liked. This is life.

The themes involved in "Yi Yi" have actually appeared in "Mahjong". Modern society, human hypocrisy, vanity, modern city people leave the earth, under the apparently abundant life phenomenon, is the exhausted and numb mind, Yang Dechang sees This is the essence of life. When it came out, everyone suddenly realized. But I have never seen what domestic directors can do. This is not only a matter of the director’s level of knowledge, but also technology.

There are several shots in "One One" showing human faces reflected on glass windows. Min Min is one in the office, downtown Taipei, the bustling traffic on the overpass, and the brightly lit buildings are reflected on a lonely face. . This effect is the perfect combination of content and form. The exhaustion of the heart and the bustling of the outside world are reflected in the lens.

The narrative of this movie is nothing strange. It basically follows the flow of time and sequence, but there are two sudden changes and sudden dangers. One is that Adi was poisoned by gas. The first time I watched it, I thought he had really seen it through and committed suicide. In fact, think carefully about how he could see through, and how could he commit suicide. There is also a thumping jump into the water, ah, struggling, water waves, long-term calm, thinking that he was drowned.

As for the mother-in-law waking up suddenly and giving Tingting paper flowers, I am not sure if it is a dream or surreal. In order to make the movie more authentic, Jianguo Middle School and Beiyi Girl all use their real names, and the school uniforms are not dealt with. Hong Kong movies cannot do this, lest it affect schools.

Finally, I want to say that the actor Wu Nianzhen is much more exciting than the screenwriter Wu Nianzhen, and his acting is so good.

I like this movie so much and will watch it again and again. And write down your feelings.

Yi Yi: A One and a Two... quotes

  • Ota: Why are we afraid of the first time? Every day in life is a first time. Every morning is new. We never live the same day twice. We're never afraid of getting up every morning. Why?

  • Yang-Yang: I'm sorry, Grandma. It wasn't that I didn't want to talk to you. I think all the stuff I could tell you... You must already know. Otherwise, you wouldn't always tell me to 'Listen!' They all say you've gone away. But you didn't tell me where you went. I guess it's someplace you think I should know. But, Grandma, I know so little. Do you know what I want to do when I grow up? I want to tell people things they don't know. Show them stuff they haven't seen. It'll be so much fun. Perhaps one day... I'll find out where you've gone. If I do, can I tell everyone, and bring them to visit you? Grandma, I miss you. Especially when I see my newborn cousin who still doesn't have a name. He reminds me that you always said you felt old. I want to tell him that I feel I am old, too.
