When I watched "Red Beard" for the first time, I felt that the movie was long and preaching, and I didn't like it because of the main theme. This time, I felt that it was not as bad as I thought, and even some clips can make people feel the warmth of the world.

The name of the movie is "Red Beard", but the movie does not only introduce Red Beard, because Red Beard may only show up in the movie 50% of the time. To be precise, what the movie wants to express is to promote the medical ethics represented by the red beard, the second is to show the sufferings in the world, and the third is to promote the love of the world. Therefore, "Red Beard" is actually a healing movie with the main theme, and it is not inferior to the modern soul chicken soup movie.

All the content and themes expressed in the film are based on the perspective of Yuzo Kayama, a freshly graduated medical student, and a third party similar to a bystander is used to examine all of these, so that the audience’s perspective coincides with that of Gasan and is brought closer. The distance between the audience and the movie is also trying to make the plot of the movie move the audience. Therefore, at the beginning of the movie, a strong conflict was created-Gasan's selfishness and lofty attitude are in sharp contrast with Red Beard's steadfastness, stubbornness and toughness. The audience also relied on Gasan's perspective to witness the process of the red beard's image change. Like the protagonist, they experienced the psychological process from incomprehension to worship.

It is worth mentioning that the structure of the three-hour movie is spliced in a shape similar to a story collection. The director wants to touch and change the position of Gasan (audience) through the means of painful drama, but also intends to highlight the suffering of life and survival. This method has been used in many movies, but it does not tell the patient's story in large sections like "Red Beard". Therefore, the rhythm is too slow, and the plot advancement is too dependent on the role of bitter drama. This is also the reason why the movie is criticized.

In terms of character creation, although Red Beard is always portrayed as a tough and stubborn image, this is all due to his sullen character. Therefore, the occasional short-talk process fully demonstrates Red Beard’s naive and cute character. Such as its iconic "hum" and stroked beard. Other characters use small fragments and details to fully create care and love between people. Although there are traces of deliberate shaping, the soft soundtrack is still touched by the pure characters in the movie. Although the shortcomings of the movie cannot be ignored, it can still have a place in the hearts of the audience as a good healing movie.
