Those who are watching a passionate show can take a break

Perhaps we have long been accustomed to all kinds of Hollywood romantic light comedies-clichéd plots, quirky settings, and all kinds of handsome men and beauties, such a brainless movie kills the time and laughs nothing. But everyone knows in my heart that this is definitely not the face of life. The weekend time is not a literary movie, nor is it a small fresh movie, this movie tells the truth.

BE will not reduce the wonderfulness, authenticity, sweetness and slenderness of this film. The two talked all night, quarreled, drugged, and had sex. Real life is so chaotic, mundane, without those stupid pretensions. Many people have had similar experiences, but their enthusiasm was eventually destroyed.

Although it doesn't matter whether this is a gay movie or not, the two parties in a relationship are both male and have different effects on the film's narration. Russell came out but was very reserved. He didn't dare to talk about his relationship with friends and didn't like to be intimate in public. Glen is on the contrary. He is more like an activist, saying FUCK to those who make homophobic remarks and threatening to "explode their chrysanthemum". At the end of the film, Glen asked Russell if he wanted to do a romantic thing like Notting Hill. Russell said that if he did, everyone would clap their hands. Glen replied that they would either clap their hands or throw the two of us onto the rails.

The two have the same anxiety about being gay, but from different directions, Russell's from the inside, and Glen's from the outside. They all try to solve their own sense of disharmony through their relationships with other men and recording every experience of shooting. The Facebook generation either wrote down everything that happened, or nothing happened.

Like most contemporary comrades, the protagonist of the movie has the pain of coming out and the fear of AIDS lurking in the depths. No one will be a self-oriented martyr like Brokeback Mountain or Milk. Although everything seems to be normal, there is still something uncomfortable. The gay community is still constantly struggling with accepting themselves, and at the same time, they have to face the exhaustion that comes after the endless appointments of the Emperor Jieke.

As a modern movie, there is no Hollywood-style artificial setting and occasional cursing lines, but it tells a moving story, and its authenticity and performance are worth five stars. Whether you are straight or curved, in love or broken in love, you probably cannot escape the reality between the two men in this small apartment.

Weekend quotes

  • Glen: Well, you know what it's like when you first sleep with someone you don't know?

    Russell: Yes.

Glen: It's... you, like, become this blank canvas and it gives you an opportunity to project onto that canvas who you want to be. That's what's interesting because everybody does that.

Russell: So do you think that I did it?

Glen: Course you did. Well, what happens is while you're projecting who you want to be... this gap opens up between who you want to be and who you really are. And in that gap, it shows you what's stopping you becoming who you want to be.

  • Glen: Do you ever think about finding your parents?

    Russell: No, not really.

    Glen: Why not?

Russell: I don't really see the point. You know, I don't think it would change anything.

Glen: Why don't I pretend to be your dad and you can come out to me?

Russell: [laughs] That is SO weird.

Glen: Just ignore the fact we just had sex.

Russell: I don't think I can. Guess I'll try. Ok.

    [looks Glen in the eye]

Russell: Dad? I got something I need to tell you.

Glen: [pretending to be Russell's dad] What's that?

    Russell: I'm gay.

    Glen: [pretends to think] Hmm.

Russell: I like guys, not girls.

Glen: [breathes out slowly] Well. You know what, son. It doesn't matter to me. I love you just the same. And guess what?

    Russell: What?

Glen: I couldn't be more proud of you than if you were the first man on the moon.
