"Margot at the Wedding"

"Margot at the Wedding" is different from "Squid and Whale", although both are nakedly showing the problems that exist in the family, they are real and sharp, with few roots and no solution. The latter is more about the relationship between various characters. Everyone is true and believable, even pitiful and "lovely", while "Margot at the Wedding" focuses on the main contradictions to be destructive. Margot, the protagonist of personality, radiates various characters around it, and the plot is full of conflict and absurdity.

Nicole Kidman, who has once again washed out the lead, has created this character very well. The rivalry with Jennifer Jason Leigh is even more wonderful and unusual. It is different from the general passion of two women. The completely different character dialogue between the two forms a wonderful concerto.

My favorite movie is one of the best forgotten movies last year. Personally, I think it’s not inferior to "Squid and Whale", but "Squid and Whale" is more refined in tone and photography. The location, setting, tone, and costumes of this film are as gray and hopeless as the characters in it.

The lighting and the theme fit well. nk looks good in this kind of light + real many Botox faces are not so obvious.

Margot at the Wedding quotes

  • Pauline: What's up?

Malcolm: I don't wanna do this.

Pauline: Come on, don't be that way.

Malcolm: No, I'm not being that way. I just don't feel like it. I'm gonna go back and... I have work to do.

Pauline: Dick doesn't care that you don't make any money.

Malcolm: Is that what you - that's not why. I just hate swimming. I really hate it. It's disgusting to me. My mistake was saying I'd do it to begin with. You have fun.

    Pauline: Fine. We'll have fun.

Malcolm: People always pee in the pool.

Pauline: I don't think Dick and Maisy pee in their pool.

Malcolm: I'll bet you 500 dollars there's pee in that pool!

  • Malcolm: I have this theory. I think, historically, women have been held back in so many ways that when they get power like they do behind the wheel, they can't help but abuse it. It's akin to Hannah Arendt's Eichmann theory about prison guards and prisoners switching roles.
