Burning the eternal flame on the vast plain of mind

First of all, I want to share with you the eleven classic sections of the film.

The first paragraph: Silvia stands naked in front of the window, with a cigarette between the tips of her left finger, and looks blankly at the street. The skinny figure and flat drooping breasts were submerged in a shadow, ugly but mysterious. The man who got up from the bed looked at her with the same numb eyes, as if he had expected the ending of this lingering night, but he could not understand, let alone let go.

Second paragraph: Silvia sat down with her back to the sea, she was lost. Desperately, he scratched two thick and deep wounds on the outside of his thigh with the stone in his hand. She walked to the highest point of the cliff. The sea was so wide and she was so small. She stopped, and underneath was a scene of turbulent waves and raging clouds. She opened her arms and leaned forward, but she was still unable to implement the idea. The huge waves slapped against the reef, more like washing the high and wide bank in her heart, but there were only ripples in the depths of her soul, and there seemed to be something buried there—the softest place in her heart.

The third paragraph: In the Mexican family cemetery, the funeral of San Diego's father is being held. The Mariana family is also staring in the distance-Mariana’s father’s eyes burst out with a hot flame, "I hope your father is rotten in hell." His revenge declaration is unceremonious, but the San Diego family can only Digging into the truck griefly. Two families and two funerals were intertwined with a scandal, and the curtain was officially opened when the coffin was in the ground.

The fourth paragraph: From the road to the trailer, the location of the affair has changed, but the pleasure of the affair has spread more and more. Santiago's father and Mariana's mother, the "wild mandarin ducks" are fascinated by the sweetness of "dew couples". Kissing, kissing, kissing fiercely, the fragrant kisses made middle-aged men and women unable to hold on to themselves for a while, but they were stopped when the man wanted to take off the woman's clothes. She took the lead in taking off her pants, and her upper body seemed to be wrapped in some kind of sacred affection, which could not be exposed even during sex.

The fifth paragraph: Silvia opened her blue pajamas, revealing slightly raised breasts. The halo from the two burgundy nipples made the whole room plunged into an atmosphere full of "hormonal". She looked at Carlos tenderly, and asked him again if he wanted some wine. Then she moved closer and put her lips together. However, the two lips and tongue that she had hoped to get tangled together did not appear. Instead, Carlos firmly refused and left with resentment, leaving behind the almost half-naked Silvia stalemate. , Desperate silhouette.

Paragraph 6: Santiago and Mariana officially meet for the first time by the windmill on Guadalupe Road. Mariana did not take a step forward after jumping off the bike, and Santiago also stopped. There seemed to be a whole galaxy lying flat in front of them—two families were broken, two families spurned each other due to scandal, and two Young people of different races who were originally unrelated to each other, these contradictory factors mixed with betrayal and separation are like endless puzzles, separating them one by one, maintaining a proper distance, and maintaining a smooth and suspenseful dialogue . A minute later, it was a slingshot that changed everything. The sharp projectile shot into the bird's body and, like Cupid's arrow, accurately hit two hearts that were indifferent on the surface and burning hot on the inside.

The seventh paragraph: Mariana's mother unbuttoned her coat, revealing an ugly scar. Her empty chest is just the appearance, and the inferiority hidden in the depths is truly revealed at this time. However, when San Diego's father kissed the scar, he pressed his thick beard like an Amazon rain forest against the woman's chest intentionally or unintentionally. What we see is a long-term repressed middle-aged woman with neurotic twitches and her satisfaction that transcends all sex to obtain pleasure-that is, dignity. Maybe her husband loves her, maybe she is not uncommon to have false love and meaningless orgasms. However, when the man kissed the scar on her chest, she already knew that everything she had belonged to him. She clearly understood that the man who embraced the ugly side of women is the man who truly appreciates the beauty of women.

The eighth paragraph: Before purifying the fire of "Joya", Mariana and Santiago separately used lighters to leave burn scars on their arms. This is the only memory that can be found in Silvia and Santiago as the father of the future. The heart-piercing pain to the eternal love of each other is of course a trivial feeling, and it is carried out in the most sacred ceremony in Mariana's mind. She left the scar on Santiago, and cut blood in her heart. The bloody love gushing out made the atmosphere instantly a bit heroic, but very warm.

The ninth paragraph: Mariana who followed her mother finally saw the scene. The groaning mother was sitting on the middle-aged man. She was releasing all the passion that was frustrated in her heart and suppressed at home. At this moment, it seems that there is only that Only men deserve to enjoy it. Mariana stared blankly, she backed slowly, panting and leaving. She has long been unable to hold on to herself. The visually impactful scene made an adolescent girl unbearable, especially when she witnessed her mother's ugly figure lingering in the arms of a strange man.

Section 10: Mariana is standing, and the breeze gently brushes her curly hair like golden wheat. A cruel smile slipped across her face, so cold, so absurd, she didn't understand what she was doing, but she was very proud. The fuse was burning, and the flames rose like a frenetic flamenco dance. In the trailer, Santiago's father and Mariana's mother were entangled in their bodies, trembling and walking into death. Mariana was still smiling, but the stalemate smile on her mouth was replaced by astonishment for an instant. She muttered "Quickly come out! Mom!" and then she couldn't help but yell. The cold autumn wind blows the black smoke away, and the mist has obscured Mariana's heart, making her escape deeply into the hidden self-blame.

Part 11: At the end of the film, the characters in the play appear one after another: Mariana's mother drove to the desolate road full of guilt but unable to hold on her own. There, San Diego's father was looking forward to it, showing firm and tender love. Carlos was walking in the cornfield with his bicycle, and the plane drove by Santiago whizzed past his head, while Maria stared at her father in the distance; Silvia was naked, exposed in the early morning In the habitual breeze, slowly, she turned around, a trace of fascination in her eyes; Mariana stroked the sleeping Santiago’s black hair and kissed goodbye to her child who was waiting to be fed. She opened the curtain and dragged her heavy suitcase to the aisle. The camera was frozen the moment she looked back.

Finally, the former Mariana and now Silvia stared straight at her well-behaved daughter Maria-there, there was a sincere feeling that had passed away waiting for her to pick it up again, right! In that room, all the trivial but true memories will be buried again due to the reunion of three familiar and unfamiliar family members. The old scars on her arms and the old marks in her heart will completely disappear and dissipate. So, she walked firmly to the room without hesitation or hesitation. Two figures, one large and one small, freeze the ending, leaving us with good expectations and melancholy.

First of all, I want to pay tribute to the director, Arriaga, who dared to use the non-linear structure narrative technique to shoot the film. The multi-thread narrative technique can be said to be inherently insufficient in terms of rounding the story. It will give the audience a sense of suspense from beginning to end, but it is possible. The audience was disappointed at the end of the film. This seemingly complicated story can be summarized in a simple way: a young girl Mariana manslaughtered them both when she discovered that her mother had committed adultery with a man. By coincidence, Mariana had another incident with the murdered man’s son, Santiago. She lost her relationship and became pregnant and gave birth to a little Maria. After she felt it was not worth having her little princess, she left their father and daughter and changed her name to Silvia, leading a lazy and slutty life. It was not until the accidental crash of the plane that Santiago was driving that his brother Carlos took the little Maria on a journey to find her mother and found Mariana of the year, that this memory was completely like a realistic documentary. Presented before our eyes.

However, I personally think that the film did not win by plot. Here I want to focus on my views on several characters in the film.

1. Silvia: A woman who suppresses herself with debauchery
This is a woman who is happy, angry and invisible, and her slutty life makes her feel numb to everything in the world. She would bare her body on the windowsill without any scruples. She would kiss a client in the car only a few days after getting to know him, and she would try to seduce her husband’s brother in the room (without knowing it at the time) ), but all her abnormal behavior is to suppress herself, she tries to shatter all ugly memories, crush them into powder, and let them dissipate anywhere. In the softest place in her heart lies a Mexican boy. He is always eighteen or nineteen years old. He is willing to burn his arms with fire for her. He is willing to leave his mother who is on the verge of collapse for her. He is also willing to She insisted on talking with her daughter in English. Silvia, who had parted with Mariana in the childhood, insisted on numbing herself with sex and laziness: Since she can't have beauty, it's better to let herself rot. She upholds this principle to make herself incompatible with society and very different from her nature.

However, Silvia was firm again. This is not the same as Mariana. Their stoic character makes ordinary men feel inferior. The slightly perverted secret buried in her heart made her almost self-defeating several times: she was no longer the Mariana who made Santiago look forward to the tassels, she had long since rejected the so-called innocence, and that whim of hoax caused two things. The broken family, blood and tears soaked in her once vast but lonely plain of mind, no flowers could bloom there in an instant. She didn't have the courage to say it, and there was no reason to let Santiago know about it and collapsed—the beautiful and pure wife was actually an executioner! Indeed, she cannot do this. So I can only choose to escape, get rid of that memory, get rid of it completely, and suppress it in my heart from the cloud.

2. Mariana: Cold personality and falling in love with Santiago for the sake of atonement are her two major sins
First of all I think Mariana is guilty. This sin was not because she accidentally killed her mother and San Diego's father, but because she hated her mother. In her dialogue with Santiago by the windmill, there was a profound sentence: "I love my mother, but I don't like her." Love is a duty and obligation. She will love her mother intellectually, of course. This kind of family bond will undoubtedly be maintained. However, "I don't like her" is thought-provoking. It is an emotional disgust, disgust and spurn in the bones. Mariana was cold at that time. Her life was just beginning but she experienced a trace of sadness and helplessness. The naughty brother, the secretive mother, and the loneliness that no one talked about, she was in the blooming season. After going through the vicissitudes of sophistication and calmness, even a little numb. However, her sin lies in the coldness at that time, which is fatal to her mother. Before the climax of the film, Mariana’s mother had wondered whether she would give up that pure eroticism, but she did not get the slightest response from her daughter. From this perspective, Mariana indirectly rejected her mother. The vision of returning to the family completely, so that she reinvested in the arms of the man, finally led to the tragedy.

I think Mariana’s second sin was falling in love with Santiago because of the atonement. Due to my different understanding of the film, I may not agree with everyone, but I still have to explain. Mariana blamed herself, she buried herself in the shadow, which was a shadow that could not dissipate for a long time. At the funeral of San Diego's father, she looked at San Diego from a distance in silence. Only she could understand the feelings at that time. So when Santiago asked her out to meet, Mariana made up her mind to make atonement. The truth cannot be said, but she can still be relieved, and that is the love for San Diego. The power of love is strong enough to shred all the memories that can't bear to look back, and get rid of the guilt entangled in the body. The initial hope to develop into true love was something she hadn't imagined. When she realized that the young Mexican youth in front of her was so frank and straight, like a clear lake, she could see to the end at a glance, she decisively poured it all into him. . However, the birth of little Maria is another matter. In Mariana's own words: "I don't deserve her!", indeed. She couldn't tell, it was difficult for her to suppress the shocking secret to her daughter: "It is your mother who killed your grandma and grandpa!". From falling in love because of the atonement to abandoning her husband and children, Mariana's soul redemption process was not successful: old scars sometimes hurt and deepen; new scars often bleed, but there is no feeling.

3. Mariana's mother: "Intellectual derailment" is not at fault.
She is an inferiority woman, and her natural graceful figure and wavy blond hair did not bring her any pride. The empty chest is a symptom of everything: the cup of a woman who has lost her breast. People who have died due to derailment, I am afraid that people who do not understand the truth will say that this is not worthy of any sympathy. Indeed, she has too many reasons not to get involved. With a caring husband, lively and smart children, and the slow-paced life of the middle class, her life that was supposed to be beautiful was completely destroyed by the abominable scar on her chest. For her, the street talks can only say this: A pair of wild mandarin ducks who are out of control are killed by a gas explosion? Maybe the version will be updated for her to seduce the married man, or maybe they are ready to elope. However, what are the facts that we see?

Husband's weakness in bed-he said as if begging for mercy, I can't, I'm sorry, I just can't! It was an insult to a woman. A woman who longed for and owned it was slapped for nothing at a critical moment. How would she feel?

What did that man do? He saw the slender and ugly wound, but he kissed wildly without hesitation, as if sipping a glass of wine, accompanied by the woman's nervous twitching, we were more like appreciating a kind of spiritual communication, pure platonic Love, not vulgar sex.

A woman who can't get self-esteem and self-confidence at home can get the most basic satisfaction from a strange man. Life is such an irony. Therefore, my personal conclusion is that she has made a sexual error, but she has not violated herself. This is the so-called "intellectual derailment."

Epilogue: All three types of women have committed sexual faults, and they have been punished accordingly. For the audience, the end of the film should be complete. Silvia once again returned to Mariana’s life trajectory. Faced with San Diego in a coma, her heartfelt confession finally made herself the ultimate salvation, and those disappeared in time and space. The clips in will also be permanently sealed in the deepest part of her heart, and there is no need to open it again. At this moment, we can imagine Mariana's mother and San Diego's father walking arm in arm on the green grass of the Garden of Eden, with the woman's side face resting on the man's generous shoulders, and the scene is warm and moving.

Two families, several pairs of lovers, and N kinds of affection, all abandoned their previous suspicions with the reunion of Mariana, Santiago and Little Maria. The flames that burned on their vast spiritual plains will never go out.
