Father and son

Costa Garvas is good at making political thrillers, I don't watch much. But "missing" is not mainly about politics, the fact is about family affection.

The relationship between a father and son is told in the suspenseful story. In fact, the character of the son has disappeared at the beginning of the story. The whole story relies entirely on the relationship between the father and daughter-in-law starring Jack Lemmon to explain the past story. For example: the father-son relationship is bad and often quarrels; the son and the father have conflicting political views on the left and right; the father and the son have not many opportunities for communication; the father does not approve of the relationship or marriage between the son and the daughter-in-law... Basically the story of a father Speak out of the picture.

This is what I think is the best part of this movie. The protagonist is actually a pair of father and son, but the father and son have no rivalry at all. The son only lives in the flashback, but the relationship between the two is as lifelike and vivid on paper. The father used the microphone to look for his son at the meeting, saying "just two of us", his eyes were wet and moving.

The best drama is bound to change. At the beginning of the story, the image of the father is unkind, rigid and cold, but it is a typical image in the traditional bad father-son relationship. He quarrels constantly with his daughter-in-law and lacks the interest of life; later he and his daughter-in-law become another kind of "father-son" relationship, warmth, kindness...the power of drama Row after row, although the suspenseful color is not strong, it is just as good-looking. Coupled with the constant armed conflicts, curfews, and the tension of the drama, it is self-evident. Although this film is not a typical genre suspense or political thriller movie, it seems a bit literary, but it is actually calculated accurately, not a dull third-rate drama. In some places, you can also see the director's intentions with the screen, such as the scene on the poster, the dress The son in the t-shirt is standing on the balcony. The background environment is the sea and the beach. The atmosphere should be comfortable and relaxed, but was interrupted by a huge cold helicopter. The contrast effect is remarkable. The horror atmosphere is conveyed through the screen, and the effect is good.

The narrative skills of the 1980s were very powerful. I feel that the narrative of this play, including the way of explaining the protagonist at the beginning, is completely playing games with the audience, which is much better than Nolan's skills later. Although the protagonist is missing, he often appears in the picture. At first I thought it was a parallel narrative, but unexpectedly it was a flashback. Although the technique of this play is not obvious, it permeates every aspect.

Politically, the entire city is also metaphorical, speaking Spanish. Speaking of this, all dramas in China have a strong political connotation, because most of the cities in our film and television dramas are virtual, at most metaphors...So it is too easy to make political thrillers, and we are always scared at any time.

  • Ed Horman: This past week I've felt like, erm, my heart has been torn out of me.

    Beth Horman: It's okay.

Ed Horman: I feel very guilty.

Beth Horman: Hey, Charlie always says guilt is like fear. It's given to us for survival, not destruction.

Ed Horman: Oh. Beth, for what it's worth, I think you are one of the most courageous people I have ever met.

  • U.S. Ambassador: We're not involved, Mr Horman. Our position has been completely neutral.

Ed Horman: That is a bald face lie, sir. How can you say a thing like that when you have army colonels, you have naval engineers, they're all over Viña Del Mar!

U.S. Ambassador: Please sit down. Look, it's very obvious you're harbouring some misconception regarding our role here.

Ed Horman: What is your role here? Besides inducing a regime that murders thousands of human beings?

U.S. Ambassador: Let's level with each other, sir. If you hadn't been personally involved in this unfortunate incident, you'd be sitting at home complacent and more or less oblivious to all of this. This mission is pledged to protect American interests, our interests.

Ed Horman: Well, they're not mine.

U.S. Ambassador: There are over three thousand US firms doing business down here. And those are American interests. In other words, your interests. I am concerned with the preservation of a way of life.

Capt. Ray Tower, USN: And a damned good one.

Ed Horman: [Staring out the window] Maybe that's why there's nobody out there.

U.S. Ambassador: You can't have it both ways.
