Ramona's story

The film is based on the Ramona series of novels by American female writer Beverly Cleary.

"Raymond and Papa" has won the "Newbury Prize for Children's Literature". Many novels that won this award have been adapted into movies, such as "Angel Sculpture." Some time ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ramona's story was also put on the screen.

If I remember correctly, Raymond La’s story took place in the late 1980s and early 1990s in the United States. At the beginning of the novel, the eight-year-old Raymond La was humming a song, and her mother was surprised by her singing. Raymond La said that if she wanted to change some new words, God should not blame it.

Raymond La's sister is called Beatrice, and as mentioned in the movie, she is a beautiful, good grade and popular girl.

Ramonla’s family is ordinary and happy, but there are also some small twists and turns in life:

Ramonla took raw eggs by mistake, and during school lunch, he imitated the most popular method of peeling eggs in the class at that time: knocking his head with eggs. As a result, her hair was covered with raw eggs, so that when she saw the original favorite letter "Q" (thinking that it had a cute little tail), she thought of the egg whites flowing out of the eggs.

Dad gave the two sisters a bag of candy, and Ramonla always kept his favorite flavor at the end to eat slowly.

What Ramona looks forward to most is that the family will go to the burger restaurant to have a nice meal. Her wish soon came true.

Later, my father was unemployed, and sometimes quarreled with his mother. The sensitive Ramona felt that the sky was about to collapse. She took the water pipe of the washing machine and pointed a section of the pipe to the bedroom of Mom and Dad, eavesdropping on their noise.

Life has become difficult because of father’s unemployment. Christmas is approaching. The school organizes a play "Nativity of Jesus". Beatrice gets the role of the Virgin, while Raymond La is playing a lamb, but the family has no spare money to make it for her. The new sheep's clothing, my mother used the old patched pajamas to transform into a costume.

Before the show, Ramonla was uneasy, afraid that the patch would be seen by the audience, and afraid that he would be laughed at. But on the day of the performance, with the lights on, no one noticed what she was worried about. The performance was very successful. Raymond La found that the sister sitting in the center of the stage smiled beautifully and looked like a Virgin.

Ramona and Beezus quotes

  • Bob Quimby: So, Beezus, suppose I told you that when I pulled up by the house tonight I saw your old buddy Henry staring at it like he left something important inside of it.

Dorothy Quimby: Henry Huggins? I haven't heard that name in a while. Isn't he the boy that used to eat dirt in the backyard?

    Bob Quimby: Yeah.

Beezus: He doesn't do that anymore!

Bob Quimby: Ooh, if I didn't know better, I'd say somebody's got a crush.

Beezus: Can we please talk about something else?

Dorothy Quimby: Well, there is that dance coming up. Maybe he wants to ask you to it.

Bob Quimby: Well, if he's gonna ask my daughter to dance, he better have some moves. Can the old dirt-eater do this?

[Mr. Quimby starts dancing very badly. Ramona and Mrs. Quimby laugh]

Beezus: [Embarrassed. Playfully throws a towel at Mr. Quimby] Oh, I hope not! Stop! Mom!

  • Ramona Quimby: [Watching a commercial, reciting the slogan] "Royal Peanut Butter: There's a bit of magic in every jar"!

Bob Quimby: Is that one of your favorites? That's the rack we gotta get you into, 'cause those TV kids make millions.

Ramona Quimby: Beezus, do you think I could be in a commercial like that?

Beezus: [Fixing Ramona's hair with a curling iron] Sure, you'd make a great frog.

    Ramona Quimby: Hey!

Beezus: Hold still. I'm almost done.

    Ramona Quimby: It's picture-perfect, right?

Beezus: Let's be realistic, Ramona. This is a curling iron, not a magic wand.

[She puts the curling iron down and holds up a mirror for Ramona to see what her new hairdo looks like]

Beezus: But, all things considered, I'd say you've never looked better.

Ramona Quimby: I love it! Thanks, Beezus!
