The light of each other during the rendezvous

On Monday (3/26), I went with two friends to watch "Close Warfare" with two friends. The original name "Joyeux Noël" means "Happy Christmas" in French.

(The plot is introduced below, with thunder.)

At the beginning, the French, English, and German primary school students stood on the podium and gave an angry youth-style speech, chanting slogans to defeat and destroy each other; then it was "August With the advent of "Cannon Fire", the characters in the film from the Three Kingdoms enlisted in the army one after another. Both sides believe that the war will soon end with their own victory.

In December 1914, the hopeless trench battle on the Western Front had been going on for several months. Human lives are constantly wasting. The main scene of the story in this film is precisely on this short section of the battle line, with the British and French forces on one side and the German forces on the other.
The first Christmas Eve on the battlefield arrived. The German soldiers who were originally singers were able to leave the trenches and go to the command headquarters to sing for the crown prince who came to inspect; therefore, he had to join the singer who had not seen him in a long time. Meet with his girlfriend (Diane Kruger). The two immediately dived back into the trench that night, wanting to sing for their frontline colleagues.
Hundreds of meters away in the trenches of the British army, the singing accompanied by the Scottish bagpipes kept coming, and the German soldiers could hear them clearly; when the singers and soldiers sang "Christmas Eve", the bagpipes that had stopped resonated. To accompany it.
This is the beginning of everything.
The singers and soldiers were happy, holding a small Christmas tree while singing, boldly walked out of the trench and stood in the no-man's land where the two sides were confronting each other; the Scottish piper followed suit. The French also came to join in the fun.
The leaders of the three parties all came out. After discussion, they decided to truce overnight.
All the soldiers walked out of the trench, and no one's land suddenly became full of voices. They compare themselves with each other, introduce themselves and exchange items. In the end, everyone celebrated Mass under the leadership of the British priest.
Although it was only one night, the truce was out of control. In the next few days, soldiers from the three countries continued to come and go, cooperate to dig the graves of the dead, and even play a football match.

"Our artillery is about to bombard, you can hide from us!"-German officer.
"Next, our artillery will fight back, it's your turn to come to us!"-British officer.

Such a dreamlike good time can't be long. The military of the Three Kingdoms quickly imposed punishments: the British officers were replaced; the entire German army was transferred to the Eastern Front (the singer and the couple fled to France); the French lead officer was not punished because he was the son of the general. He had a big quarrel with his father who came to reprimand: "You and I are fighting different wars", "For me, Germans are closer than those who eat chickens and say they want to kill Germans. ". The British priest was also condemned by the archbishop and deported. After the archbishop came to the headquarters, he gave a completely different sermon: "This is a holy war. The Germans are not the people of Christ. For the sake of civilization and freedom, kill the Germans!"
From the end of this short dream, all The fratricidal wars among European nations will continue for another three years and ten months.

The gurgling style of the movie is flat and straightforward, without any surprises. The Christmas song with the soundtrack also makes it comfortable to watch all the way.
I am not particularly emotionally moved: on the one hand, the people I watched with are too happy to speak, on the other hand, it should be cultural factors. I am not a Christian. I have been a heretic since before, and I will always be a heretic in the future. That feeling is always separated by a layer.
If you don't consider the ending, it should be regarded as a healing work.

I think of Xu Zhimo’s verse, although it has been used as a common

saying : Whether you remember it,
it’s best for you to forget,
the light that shines in this rendezvous!

A few words later.
My friend H, who watched it at the same time, reminded me: There is no room for such a story to happen in East Asia. There is no common holiday between us, especially religious holidays. Perhaps this is the sorrow of the East Asian cultural circle.
Although it was filmed in France, the people of the three countries in the film used their own languages on their respective occasions, which is far more true than the Hollywood war film where everyone speaks English.
Must add: Diane. Kruger is right! ! ! ~XD

    Happy second day of Christmas!

Joyeux Noel quotes

  • Horstmayer: I heard last night about your wife. If you like, I can get a letter through to her.

Lieutenant Audebert: Why would you do that? If you got caught...

Horstmayer: [scoffs] One letter won't stop us winning the war. And anyhow, when we'll have taken Paris and it's over, you can invite us for a drink in Rue Vavin.

Lieutenant Audebert: You don't have to invade Paris to drop round for a drink.

  • Gordon: We were talking about a cease fire, for Christmas Eve. What do you think? The outcome of this war wont be decided tonight. I don't think anyone would criticize us for laying down our riffles on Christmas Eve.
