(Actually, this is not a film review in the true sense. Rock and movies are only half-knowledgeable to me, but there is a kind of power, like trying to miss the sea again before the water droplet evaporates)
When I first watched this movie, I doubted Li Ang’s abilities, the male protagonist’s expression was dull, and the story went tepid. Li Ang’s straightforward directing style seemed to be unable to control this kind of rock music festival-themed movie: A small village away from the hustle and bustle, a family of three, a small hotel where no one wants to live in, some small villagers who are afraid of causing trouble... Just like the name of Baihu, I doubt how such a colorless beginning can lead to 1 million A music festival for hippies? How can the music festival carnival, hangovers, and promiscuity among hippies behave? I admit that as a rock youth who has never experienced a foreign music festival, what I want to experience most is the kind of rock scene with great momentum and sound waves; what I want to see most is the local villagers who stick to the rules because of rock and utopia. Changed their modest attitude towards life; what I want to hear most is that the male protagonist has also become a rock musician, standing on the stage yelling rockin'roll over his thumb, index finger and little finger, but at the end of the movie, I want None of the plots appeared, and there was not even a complete performance by a band. However, I love this movie.
The only thing that made me smile from the beginning to the end of the movie was when one hundred thousand hippies entered the White Lake, a person held a sign with the words: BOB DYLAN PLEASE SHOW UP, just a flash. The camera can see the director’s intention: everyone in Woodstock may be BOB DYLAN, any band may become The Doors, Stones... They are each of us, they hide in the crowd, in the mighty rock and roll Dancing among the stars, rolling in the mud, making love in the grass, taking off his clothes to perform dramas, flying marijuana in the garage.
Until Elliott’s illusion appeared, I still didn’t think it was a good movie, until Ang Lee used illusion to create the center of the universe for us. The fuchsia crowd was like countless luminous planets, and the center of the universe was Ang Lee. He silently instilled "freedom" into us with his movie language. After Elliott had hallucinations, he stumbled home. At that time, he became his real self, and he had the courage to face his mother with obsessive-compulsive disorder and World War II suspicious illness. , Tell me the depression he has always been: Among the more than 1 million young people, he is the only one who accompanies his parents to eat breakfast at home. In the past, Elliott was like a domesticated horse. He was young but had to discuss some trivial matters in the village with a group of old ladies. He was talented and his paintings were not accepted by others. He loved freedom but was bound in the name of love. In this small village without any color, living with parents who are about to split mentally, suffering from the cold violence of the family and the boring trivialities of the small town, this should not be what young people should be. And this music festival allowed him to see the purple universe condensed by the power of freedom. He stood on his planet and looked at the vast interstellar space in front of him. He decided to leave here.
The Woodstock Music Festival gathered 450,000 hippies together within 3 days. It is not just the simple meaning of the music festival. It is more like the call and instruction of a spiritual leader. "Stoke Music Festival" seems to be too plain and modest for Westerners to arouse their strong spiritual resonance for the music festival. Perhaps Ang Lee does not fully understand the essence of Woodstock, and he is familiar with it. Calm down the tone, the changes that the music festival has given to a young man is even more a way of protecting oneself.
However, after watching it, I feel that this movie seems to be made for Chinese people. Although the rock atmosphere in China is far less than that in the West, domestic rock youths cannot be as free and open as foreign ones, but everyone is interested in rock and roll. Enthusiasm is interlinked, and standing in a great music world will also produce the same illusion as watching the vast interstellar. Even if we feel that there are not many young people who like rock and roll around us, it is not impossible to gather 450,000 or more young rock and roll youths in the face of the huge population base of the country, but is it possible to run a woodstock in China? I don’t want to say that it is impossible for Woodstock to be a decent music festival today.
It doesn't matter, in fact, domestic music festivals have Chinese characteristics no matter what they are organized. Ok. "Chinese characteristics", these four words actually have Chinese characteristics.
Finally, I just want to say, the modern young people who are going to Midi this year, don't pretend to be forced! ! ! ! ! No one wants to see what you wear, what girl you bring! ! ! ! !
