-Comment on The Misfits
Hollywood is too stereotyped , the old Hollywood is even more stereotyped, it is just a model carved out. I thought, maybe no one would go to watch such an old film, but I would write a review that no one saw.
To tell the truth, I was forced to watch so many Gable films, this one is the best and the most cheesy-it is said that Gable himself had a good time and died in it.
As we all know, Gable often starred in the image of male cats. The women playfully drilled into his arms, then raised their faces, closed their eyes, intoxicated, and accepted his sweet kiss as if they were bathed in the sun. I guess he is tired of acting himself, his mouth is swollen, and the beauty is like soap, all bubbling. In his later years, Gable finally acted in a good movie and acted himself once.
A good movie is like this, whether you live in the western United States or southern China, it can resonate and move you. Speaking bigger, it shows the feelings of human beings; speaking smaller, it's reasonable to act like that. As a man, who doesn't want to chase wild horses, who doesn't want to embrace beauty? The so-called wild horse is a free life, and the so-called beauty is beautiful love. Is there anything more worth pursuing in this world?
In the movie, Gable is a suave old cowboy. He is very fond of women, and he never lacks women-they are a bit annoying for women. In his eyes, doing everything is better than sitting in an office, looking down on those well-dressed people from the bottom of his heart, going to get off work all day, walking dead, still a man? He likes to hunt wild horses, he likes to gallop in the wilderness, galloping freely, unfettered, and unruly. This is the man who is enough to live vigorously-it is the life of a man!
However, times have changed, society has changed, and people have grown old. It seems that everything has become out of date. The age of the cowboy is gone forever, not changing means being abandoned, and he still wants to stick to it. The movie often expresses the lament of the impermanence of the world. They hunted the last few wild horses. The whole process was like a sunset over the wilderness. It was the end of an era and an elegy!
After all, he is not young anymore. He has lived to this age, and has gone through the vicissitudes of life, coupled with the great changes of the times, it is impossible to be happy without thinking about it. The old cowboy was a little more helpless and a little sad. Because of this, he began to look back, knowing how to cherish family and women. After being drunk, his eyes were full of tears, and his heart felt sad.
Therefore, he would cry out to his daughter over and over again, and he could see that Monroe was a sad girl. This frustrated person, knowing that he is not capable, still longs for a passionate life, and his heart is full of contradictions, and this contradiction is perfectly explained through Gable's performance-you can't even see him acting.
I can even conclude from this that Gable is a shy and shy person, not a male cat on the screen. Such people do not need to read books, they are still very sensitive and easily emotional. Of course, he will not cry when he is emotional, but will face and fight in his own way. This may also be the tragic side of men!
The story is simple, but the dialogue is very complicated, full of poetry, even too poetic, it feels like Miller tried too hard. Let's take out the characters and analyze them one by one!
The heroine, the famous Monroe. Monroe is really a doll-like woman, sexy and playful, she is just a bunch of sweet meat. The woman she plays is the Monroe in Miller's eyes (in reality, Miller is Monroe's husband). What kind of woman is this? There is a beautiful face, a sexy body, a graceful dance, a frown and a smile, so amazing that all men salivate. She has no culture, but has her own rich and sensitive inner world. She likes to dance, but she likes it purely, without a trace of distractions. But those men were tempted to take possession of her body, but no one really understood her. She is so eager to understand and care! But it is always unavailable. She is so sad, that dance in the moonlight has become the inner monologue of this peerless beauty. In addition, Monroe has a child-like innocent kindness, so kind that men can't bear it.
It can be said that Monroe here is a pure woman, too pure to be pure anymore. She is unwilling to harm any small animals, even rabbits or wild deer that eat vegetables. The old lady let her be deceived by a few words and donated the money to the church. She cares for a man, sometimes out of pure kindness, just like a mother caring for her own baby. Seeing the young cowboy participating in the cruel bullfighting contest, she cried in fright, ran to discourage her, and cried bitterly with the injured cowboy, not because of loving him, but because of her natural kindness. In the end, kindness was brought to the extreme. She went crazy to protect the little Mustang. She became hysterical and scolded Gable: "You liars! Executioner! Murderer!"
She didn't know, her words hurt a man's self-esteem. "Give you money, I will sell all these horses, you let them go!" Monroe shouted. Gable originally wanted to release the wild horse, but when she said that, he got angry. You must keep the wild horse with your own gloves. Men have the logic of men. They use violence to fight their fate. Women cannot understand this. The cowboys are not chasing wild horses, but freedom. Gable is like a stubborn little boy. When he is wronged, he must use his strength to prove it.
Let me talk about the next few supporting roles.
The pilot is an intellectual. He seemed to see the truth of life clearly, and he also saw the cruelty of human nature. He once bombed towns, and when he looked up at the stars, he could say something profound. But in fact, he is a selfish and lustful person. He said he was selfish, because he said that his dead wife listened to him, and he had no complaints. But his wife didn't even know that he could dance. Monroe said, maybe she died because of this. Where can happiness go in a marriage without communication? When he saw the beautiful Monroe for the first time, he immediately wanted to possess it, and when he realized that he could not possess it, he slowly held a grudge. At the end of the horse hunt, it was really chilling that he went so far as to provoke the relationship between Gable and Monroe.
The young cowboy is a reference for Gable. From him, Gable saw the shadow of himself when he was young. Young is everything. The cowboy also fell in love with Monroe, but he was too young to understand a woman's heart, couldn't say Gable's affectionate words, and couldn't move Monroe. The other supporting role is the old woman, Hollywood movies always have such a role, very interesting, used to set off the heroine.
Wild horses and women are the same beauty, and they cannot have both. In the end, Gable released the Mustang and chose a woman. He said, your smile is as beautiful as the sunrise. I also said that I have never seen such a sad girl like you.
Can a woman really give him happiness? "Along the brightest star, you can walk home."
I hope so.
