Road to hell

For me, an old-school romantic who likes "The Merry Widow" and "Mr. Smith to Washington", watching a Dougma movie from start to finish is like biting my scalp and drinking my most unbearable soy juice. It is said that only those who love to drink soy juice are the real Beijingers.
Unfortunately, I can't be a Beijinger because I can't drink soybean juice.
Unfortunately, I can't get used to Dougma movies, so I am not a true modern art lover.

At best, I'm just joining in the fun, making a fuss and talking casually.

After I watched this movie, I just heard the grumpy worker father outside scolding his four-year-old daughter, the man yelling rudely, the girl’s shrill cry, and women’s complaints. Recently, this factory has ceased production and may soon go bankrupt. Therefore, the man whose parents, brothers, daughter-in-law and wives work in the factory have become more grumpy. My feeling is that he will kill.
A worker's family of seven people living in forty square meters, what else can you say?

Dougma movies are said to be known for their complete realism, which is especially suitable for shooting ordinary life scenes with portable cameras. As far as the three Trier movies I have seen, the dancer in the dark, that night, and the film, I personally feel that his movies still have a taste of traditional drama, not like real documentaries, especially This movie is like a stage play, and even the virtual action is a bit like our traditional opera. As far as the few domestic Dougma movies I have seen, they are pure documentaries. If Gema is a form of intellectual rebellion against commercial movies in Europe and America, especially in Europe, with a spirit of speculation and criticism, then our imitations are outright howlings. I used the term imitation because they didn't understand the true inner meaning of Dougma, they just imitated its appearance awkwardly. Mr. Fu Lei said that there is no real music in China, at least I think there is no outstanding modern art in China. Modern art, as far as film is concerned, is not about putting a few pillars there for people to guess, nor is it about letting actors with no performance skills open their voices and shout. The key is what kind of thing you hold as the author of the film. The psychology of creating? Are there any thoughts in your movies? Do you have real feelings in it?
I myself am quite disgusted with those shoddy and seemingly avant-garde movies. Shit is indeed a very life-like thing, but as an artist, you always let others watch movies where people do shit. At first, it was very cool and unusual, but there was nothing but this. Others can cause constipation or stomach problems.
Modern art is not just about painting toilets.
Who is your movie filmed for? Of course, you can show Bergman's skills to a small group of people. This is your high qualification. The problem is that someone is not a real artist at all, but pretends to be a master who specializes in making inexplicable movies for people to watch. It is shameful not to know how to be proud.

Coming back to talk about this movie, it's like the Nordic movies have always focused on the spirit of focusing on people, full of philosophical thinking, cold and simple, this is the result of the strictness of Lutheranism. The evil and inevitable of human nature, idealism and redemption are teased, of course this is not just an allusion to the United States. In any country in the world, in an era, people like Grace will be either killed or elected as slave owners sooner or later. As R Trier wrote in Mao Zedong's biography, he told Chinese people to laugh in the face of thousands of years of tradition, but he himself became a traditional idol, and he felt desperate.
To reform society and let those who are ignorant and poor get freedom, democracy, and human rights. Which idealist has never held the faith like Jesus? But if you can't even go to the cross in the end, you will either be mocked by the people you want to save and become the assimilation of those who you think are stupid, or you will return to where you came from. The world is united, people love each other, freedom and faith are of course beautiful, but they are just dreams and eternal dreams.
This is indeed a desperate movie, but he is telling the truth after all. The untrustworthy, complicated, and good intentions of human nature bring only a farce.
I asked a forty-year-old rural relative what he would like to do if he had money, he said. Wife first, son second. I don’t know if you have any experience dealing with people at the bottom, especially if you are a naive idealist, trying to let them know the meaning of truth and freedom, you will desperately find yourself a fool, you are in the eyes of others It's a monster. They don't need these nihilistic things, all they want is the realization of the physical objects. A lot has been said about most of the numbness and silence. The essence of the problem is that it is difficult to change human nature and beliefs. No wonder Napoleon said that the conquest without regret is the conquest of ignorance.
Human beings only obey power and violence by their nature.

The factory near my home is about to close. Hundreds of people will be unemployed. Most of them are middle-aged men and women who have no experience in making a living except for work. They are free, the market is the society, and there is no food to eat. The feeling of being abandoned is not something a migrant worker can understand. They at least still have land, but those people have nothing. It's like the first Bert who went outside after being free in the movie, but he was not dead in the end. Being a slave has no dignity but a sense of belonging, but freedom is a luxury. At least for people who are unable to make a living, throwing them into society will only be a disaster, before they learn to be independent. Churchill predicted that those areas that left colonial rule too early would have trouble sooner or later, because they had not learned to manage themselves. Unfortunately, despite the regrets for the British Empire, it is true.

Having said a lot of digressions, I think I can probably make a Chinese-style Dougma movie. The scene is as follows;

I carried a 35mm camera on my shoulder, and
I asked the four-year-old girl who was beaten in the face : "Your mother Miles?
She replied: "Ban! "
I asked:" Your father mile? "
She replied:" feel! "(Sleeping)
I asked: "Are you milky?" "
She replied:" card! "(Playing Mahjong)

Note: The dialogues are all in Henan accent.

I don’t know if I understand Dougma, right?

Manderlay quotes

  • Timothy: You are forgetting one thing.

    Grace Margaret Mulligan: What's that?

    Timothy: You made us.

  • Narrator: Grace and her father resumed their legendary discord, even as they pulled out of Dogville. And although Grace had been employing the technique of letting things go in one ear and out the other for a pretty long time now, she was, to be frank, somewhat weary of her overweening daddy, who still believed any nagging woman could be pacified with the good old bouquet of carnations.
