Write in front

Hi everyone, I'm Sheng Sheng Bu Xi.

What are your memories about childhood?

For most people, in childhood there is probably a swing, toys, gentle parents, a great dinner, carefree, no sorrow.

However, there are also such a group of children who have not had time to look forward to their childhood, and they have already understood what backfired.

As Wang Xiaobo said, "Unfortunately, everyone has their own destiny. If I can choose, I don't want to live here and now."

"Life of Zucchini" is such a film.

Under the bright sunlight, the story is plated with warm colors. The children are bright and lovely. No one knows what kind of past they have and how they will grow up with time.

For these children, life is always full of bitterness.

In that place called the "adoption house", a large group of people sit together, and loneliness is the empathy of all.

From the first day they came here, their waiting began.

Waiting for the emergence of adoptive parents, waiting to be integrated into a family, waiting to be loved.

They still don't understand the rules of the world well, and they can't figure out how they become unwanted children, but they vaguely understand that children in an adoption home are different from other children.

This is a dark fairy tale dressed in a candy coat. Under the seemingly glamorous and lovely appearance, it is full of scarred innocence.

01 A child hit by accident

The beginning of the film uses a set of images to show the living environment of the little boy Ika at home:

Without a father, his mother was addicted to alcohol all day long, beating and scolding him.

Apart from playing with a little kite that symbolizes his father, Ika's daily pastime is to "build a tall building" with a bottle of wine that his mother finished drinking.

Due to an accident, the drunk mother fell down the stairs and died, and the adoption home became Ika's second home.

But, can it really be called "home" there?

Without parents, no relatives, living and eating together with a group of strange children, forced to integrate into an uncomfortable group, grew up into a blind drift without direction.

The only thing that is certain is that they all have a broken past, with a lot of scars that children from ordinary families can't understand or understand.

Sadly speaking, Ika insisted on letting others call him "Zucchini" because his mother called him that way.

Although the name is not pleasant, it is the only warmth that he can feel.

The little boy with an unruly hairstyle is called Simon. He behaves arrogantly and loves to bully. Because he can't understand the taciturn of zucchini, he snatched his cherished kite.

The two fought a fight, which also shortened the distance between the two hearts.

He introduced the children's life backgrounds to Zucchini, which is a very worrying video segment:

  • Simon's parents take drugs;
  • Biya's mother was deported back to Africa;
  • Jujube's mother is mentally ill;
  • Ahmed's father was arrested for robbery;
  • And Alice's father did dirty things to her, disgusting things.

She had nightmares every night, always covering half of her face with thick bangs, as if this could hide those dirty memories, so that she could carefully hide her emotions.

We are all the same, no one loves us.

This is Simon's closing remarks.

At that moment, this stubborn teenager showed a rare vulnerability, which was especially sad.

If so, who doesn't want to sleep in an exclusive room, enjoy a mother's goodnight kiss, embrace the world's tenderness and dream?

Who doesn't want to act like a baby to their parents and live as a cute child, instead of being forced to erect a thorn, just because they are afraid of being hurt again?

Over time, this group of children living in the adoption home began to learn awkwardly how to get along like family.

Because in addition to being dependent on each other, fate did not give them a second alternative.

02 Depressed yearning

The children went out for an outing under the guidance of their teacher. They met a mother and son on the road. When the mother realized their identity, she immediately dragged the children away, as if they had encountered a terrible plague.

This is the most disturbing segment in the film.

We are sad, but we can't deny its truth.

A child who enters the foster home is like being branded with an invisible brand. Without tutoring, the child has a stubborn temperament and is easy to learn badly...

And so on, between them and the children with healthy families, there is an insurmountable chasm.

Sadly, these invisible differences are not understood by children themselves.

They just stood in the snow, looking at the back of the mother and child away, watching the child act like a baby to the mother, watching the two figures, one big and one small, holding hands and clinging to each other tightly.

No one speaks, and no one can hide his enviable look.

During those short few seconds of silence, I was swept by a strong emotion, and my eyes were uncontrollably wet.

When you see this, you will understand why children's bravery is especially distressing.

It is a kind of maturity that is against nature, the strength of learning to lick the wound prematurely, the kindness that is not hidden deep but no one cares.

These deliberately suppressed emotions finally slowly cracked after the girl Camille arrived.

As a child in a foster care, Camille’s life experience is no better than others.

Her father personally killed the cheating mother and then committed suicide, and she witnessed everything happen.

However, Camille is different from other kids.

She is stronger and more optimistic.

She let Zucchini see the different possibilities of having the same fate, and because of the indelible warmth and kindness in her bones, Zucchini developed a certain kind of goodwill for the opposite sex for the first time.

On that night at the ski resort, Zucchini folded a colored paper boat for Camille.

They knocked on the ice cubes at their feet and let the paper boat float on the water, as if they were telling fate:

Look, even if life is desperate, we can still open up new channels, let hope go where it should go, and find a destination for happiness.

To Zucchini, Camille is like a sweet dream. She was covered with scars, but she brought him endless warmth and strength.

...

That day, Lehman, the police officer in charge of the Zucchini mother case, said something to Zucchini:

I came to see you not because of work, but because I like you.

This sentence gave him a kind of unspeakable tenderness.

Like Zucchini, Lehman, who is already an adult, still has an unsolvable loneliness.

He has a son, but he is thousands of miles away, leaving him alone in his hometown.

He also longed for family affection, longing for company, longing for the warm picture of his children around his knees, and Zucchini and Camille happened to fit all his imagination.

So he thought about it and proposed adoption.

After learning the news, the precocious child Simon lost his temper, but then seriously advised zucchini in the middle of the night:

You must go. It's rare for someone to be so nice and willing to adopt a child like us.

"Children like us", this sentence makes countless viewers feel distressed.

This group of young children, no one ever asked their opinions, gave birth to them without permission, and abandoned them without hesitation.

So low self-esteem, lack of love, and insecurity became the only growth gift the world gave them.

At the end of the film, Rosie, the administrator of the adoption home, gave birth to her child.

The children chatted around her and kept asking, but the core of the question was nothing more than one:

Wouldn't you really want him?

"Even if he is ugly?" "Even if he smells bad?" "Even if he doesn't stop crying?" "Even if he wets the bed? Or is his grades bad?" "Even if he is stupid? Or has his appetite like a pig?" "Even if he Can't remember his name, and his feet are smelly?" "Even if he is unbearable and keep yelling?" "Even if he farts?" "Even if he scribbles on the wall? Or thinking To be a policeman?" "Even if... even if he has a giraffe neck?" "Even if he is a trash?"

...

They were born, they were abandoned.

No one explained the reason to them, and no one cared how they felt.

So they can only reflect on themselves whether they are not good enough to grow up so hard.

So naive, and so distressing.

Fortunately, one day, lonely children will grow up, and those unavoidable pains and tears will eventually turn into armor on the body, hard and warm.

As Zucchini wrote in the letter:

Dear Simon, you said that adoption homes are for those who are not loved. You were wrong, we did not forget you, nor did others.
