Let me first talk about my own thoughts. This is a story that takes place in the same time and space, as if in a hypocritical "theme park" like a parallel world.
After reading the short comment, I feel that many people are very dissatisfied with the narrative sequence of the film.
It is true that the dislocation of the plot is set, and in the early stage, it is indeed doubtful which era is the story. But it is precisely because of this narrative that a lot of foreshadowings can be set in the early stage.
For example, why is the hostess in her room deliberately and strangely stepping from the bedside to the door.
Why wipe the metal parts of the door with something similar to grease?
And why the black brother would go to the door to ask about the time of action and so on.
These foreshadowings were all recovered one by one in the later period.
For some comments about whether they were brainwashed, they would unconditionally obey the white orders. My idea is that they have not been brainwashed, they just succumbed to violence and cruel treatment.
At the beginning, the film quickly finished. Under the leadership of the heroine, a small group of blacks tried to resist. As a result, the black man, represented by his lover, sacrificed. I tend to be kidnapped to this "theme park" not long after that time. Because at that time, after her rebellion plan failed, when she was violently used by the so-called "general" with a belt and a soldering iron, the heroine had to name her named "Eden".
I don't want to go to a deeper level, whether blacks in the film are good and whites are bad. But when any party has rights or power, it is really easy to be self-esteem, abuse power or even lose humanity.
Among them, the soldier who assaulted the pregnant black girl, I think he should have come to "experience" this "theme park" with his friends. At the beginning, he didn't know the "rules of the game" at the banquet, stumbling and shyly didn't dare to speak to the black girl. As a result, when the camera changed later, maybe he was familiar with the "rules" that white people in this paradise can do as they please. His very real and terrifying request for help from black girls turned into "how can you talk to me like this".
This film cannot be said to be bug-free. Is there really no tourist who has been to the park to have doubts about everything that is too real or even want to call the police? Also, do the American police eat plain rice? More than one famous person was missing (the heroine finally called the dead black brother "Professor"). Is there really any clue? On the contrary, it was all kinds of TV protests by the heroine and her husband that caused the public opinion to pay attention to this matter?
What I'm still a little puzzled about is that in the slow motion at the end of the film, except for the heroine who is really moving, the others are so slow that I don't know if it is part of the set. And during that period of artillery fire, I even thought that the main female was gg (・᷄ὢ・᷅ )......
Finally, I would like to say that no matter how many new movies of the new wave of black horror, they are only deepening the antagonism between black and white identities. Without a correct theoretical program to lead the action, no matter who wins or loses in this war, the people who come up will ultimately be the same.
