The whole movie is always immersed in a cold and restrained atmosphere. The so-called chivalrous bones are all manifested in the cold behavior of the characters, and the so-called tenderness is all hidden in clues.
The dialogue from the beginning to the end is scarce and concise, which makes people doubt whether the sound film is meaningful to Melville; the contrast between light and shadow and the dim colors from the beginning to the end of the film make people suspect that this is just a colored black and white film. What is extreme stylization? Just look at Melville's works.
The most famous passage of the film is the robbery of the jewelry shop. The whole process of theft is not detailed and presented one by one. When it is cumbersome and lengthy, it is like a specification of the process, and when the drama is tense, it is like a cloud of treacherous actual combat. I almost laughed when I saw them stealing jewels and avoiding infrared rays. The two big men straddle an infrared light that is not too high, and they drag their feet together and slowly, like a stage performance. I immediately thought of the scene of Chow Yun-fat and Leslie Cheung stealing famous paintings in the castle in "Across the World". I don't believe that Wu Yusen didn't pay tribute to "Red Circle" when filming this scene. It’s just that Wu Yusen’s photos are much more romantic and funny, and he laughs easily, as if playing the world.
I feel that this is a movie that men would like. It has meticulous technical precision, a calmness that is calm and fearless, and a fate of self-destruction that cannot be escaped. The dignity of life or death, the morality of going or staying, are all tolerated under the frozen face.
I feel that this movie is more difficult to become a movie that women love, not because women are marginalized in the film and thrown into the trash can, but because the film made by the French is emotionally restrained like a German. Looking at the taciturn cool faces of Alain Delon and Yves Mundang, their calm demeanor, and the gentleman-like clothing and manners, I wish I could not admire and agree with each other with enthusiasm, but Melville gave a big hand. Block, reject people thousands of miles away.
The reason why this old film was reproduced was because it was going to be remade.
Wu Yusen highly praises Melville. I heard that he was interested in remaking "Red Circle" a few years ago. Melville-influenced director-Johnnie To, starring Orlando Bloom.
Three people have three styles:
Melville is from a science and engineering background, well-fitted and methodical. "Red Circle" is a high-level workbook for model students in science and engineering.
Wu Yusen is a passionate young man who is engaged in art, passionate, happy and enmity, "Blood Two Heroes" is undoubtedly a gorgeous and extravagant romantic poetry.
Du Qifeng happens to be among them. The eclectic combination of rationality and sensibility may make the rhythm of the new film sharp, but not too dull; maybe it can put the warmth in the button, but not too forbearing and indifferent.
I think Du Qifeng's interest in this subject must have many factors of interest to him, such as confrontation between police and criminals, tragic fate, and masculine friendship. The personal imprint of Melville's works is very heavy. Of course, I guess Qifeng To must feel that there are many different ways of expression and focus in it. In terms of personal style, Qifeng To is not too much.
As for the male protagonist in the film, if it is still the original characterization, in fact, there is not much room for acting. Orlando can completely win with temperament and charm like Alan Deron, and pay attention to several small points. The emotional expression is basically OK. Of course, I hope Qifeng To has greater ambitions for character creation.
I think the most dramatic and interesting part of this film is the sharpshooter role played by Yves Montan. Appearing in a surrealist dream, he broke his panic in one fell swoop, and formed a sharp contrast with his capable and steady performance afterwards. This small paragraph, which is quite out of touch with the overall documentary style of the film, has achieved the most energetic characterization in the whole film.
It is rumored that Chow Yun-fat and Liu Qingyun will join in the film. I wonder if this role is in their heads?
