Tom Holland ("Sheri") and Daniel Kaluya ("Jesus is My Companion") online/video/video, produced by Amazon Studio, "Actor-to-Actor" conference hosted by "Variety" .
In "Sherry", the role played by Tom Holland was transformed from a bank robber from a war veteran into a bank robber due to post-traumatic stress disorder and drug addiction. This role is a self-breakthrough that Tom Holland deliberately tried after playing the superhero Spider-Man Peter Parker. The main creators of "Sherry" are also from the Marvel team. The director is to direct the "Avengers: Endgame" Russell (Anthony Russell and Joe Russell) brothers. They invited Tom Holland to star in this film by Apple The /independent/li/movie produced by TV Plus, the movie is developed in the form of interspersed narrative.
Daniel Kalua’s role in "Jesus is My Companion" also has something to do with Marvel. During the filming of "Black Panther" (in which Daniel Kalua played the W'Kabi warrior W'Kabi), the director Ryan Coogler approached him and invited him to participate in the filming of his own movie. This movie is "Jesus is my accomplice" ( It will be released in theaters and HBO Max soon), this is a film about the Panthers sports collar/sleeve Fred Hampton during the Civil Rights Movement. Two days before Christmas, London was in the first level of precaution. Tom Holland and Daniel Kalua told each other about their past adventures in filming superheroes and the difficulties they encountered recently when they left.
Daniel Kaluya (hereafter referred to as "Daniel"): Brother, have you been like this lately?
Tom Holland (hereafter referred to as "Tom"): I'm fine, buddy. I am with my family. It feels weird to have nothing to do during the day. At about 4 in the afternoon, I thought, "I think I'd better have a drink."
Kalua: How did you spend your life during the epidemic?
Holland: I'm very lucky because I like golf. For people who don't play golf, golf is the most boring sport. But for me, golf is my favorite thing. I like it because I can turn off my phone and temporarily disconnect from anything else, so I play golf basically every day. How about you?
Daniel: When I first started, I watched a movie every day. There are so many movies recommended by people, but I have never watched it. I think I like to use this time to do this. I let myself do it. By the way, I like your movie, I think it's crazy, I can see that you have to do a lot of work as the protagonist. After all, you are now Spider-Man, and of course you have many other important characters, but you are now Spider-Man. You have worked with the Russell brothers before, how did you work with them again?
Tom: I was doing ADR for "Avengers: Endgame." At the end of the meeting, the Russell brothers pulled me aside and said, "We want to make a new movie. It is about a post-traumatic response. Are you interested in the story of a child with a radical disorder who became addicted to drugs and ended up robbing a bank? "When they offered me this job, I was really excited. When I read the script for the first time, I thought, "I can't make this movie, I will collapse. I won't be able to hold on to such a role for long." I did a lot of preparation work, including setting the role. And figure out how I go from a to b in each part. The most difficult part is trying to merge the parts, because the situation of the characters is always changing throughout the movie.
Daniel: What is really difficult for you is that you have to break the image of the past and show it to the audience. What I'm talking about is the scene where you are in the car with a syringe for taking drugs. How did you shoot it?
Tom: We finished the /drugs/products/part of the movie, and then we almost progressed to the part where he fell in love. The Russell brothers wrote down this scene of the movie, which is the scene you mentioned. We have to relive his life when he was taking drugs. I remember sitting in the car, Joe and Anthony walked into the window and they said, "Don't hold back." In this case, nothing is done too much. "Then I went crazy, really. I don’t know what else could describe it. I beat my leg to the ground with the needle that broke every time. It’s not a real needle--it will retract--but I I am always worried that once it cannot be collected, I will stick it directly into my leg. My nose hit the steering wheel very badly, and my nose bleeds a lot, but you won’t see it in the movie , This scene makes me very disturbed. So for you, how did you get the role of "Jesus Is My Companion"?
Daniel: What’s interesting is that when I was reshooting "Black Panther," the director Ryan Coogler (the director of "Black Panther") pulled me aside and said, "We are making a Fred Hampton movie, we I hope you will play Fred Hampton." Then they gave me a two-page story summary, which is one of the /best/best/story summary I have ever seen, because it is so clear, it knows What does it want to express. Then, I had a conversation with the director Shaka King in New York. At that time, I was promoting "Escape from Death", and then we started shooting about two years later. It took a long time from being creative to getting permission to shoot.
Tom: I think I'm going to watch his speech and see what he looks like in real life. I can't believe how much your voice sounds like him.
Daniel: Oh, wow. Thank you so much. This is just a process of figuring out the character. My voice sounds exactly like him, which sounds a bit strange. Can't equate Fred/chair/chair/ with me, because we are different people. Look at his/video/video/, look at his things, see how he touches me, and then think ー ー well, how can I touch others like he touched me? /Reproduction/With this energy and spirit, I worked with the director. We spent four days together studying his speech.
Tom: What I want to say is, have you ever noticed that-especially in our current /political/political/, ethnic environment-telling the story of a character in real life must be heavy, and Many people may not be able to bear this heavy burden. How can you objectively show real people and educate the people at the same time? How do you deal with this pressure?
Daniel: It is very necessary to balance these two points. It is a lot of pressure for me. The only time I release it is when I realize that the role is stronger than me. I am just a container. He is released through me. This is my respect for the role. Then I can let go, just in it. When you think of him as a character, an idol, a/leader/director/leader/ of the Chicago community, it makes sense. However, there is one thing, you have to think of him as a character in order to portray him in the story you tell. It's kind of cool: what does he want here? Is your request of him sincere? This helps me understand the character through the scene every day, every day. (In "Sherry") How did you film the bank robbery scene?
Tom: I was just about to ask you, because you acted in the scene of robbing a bank in "Out of the Enemy", right? This is weird, because this is such a small group, it really feels like I am robbing a bank. When the alarm went off and I held/gun/pointed the poor lady's face, I couldn't get rid of thinking that what I did was wrong. There was a scene where I was arrested. I had never been arrested before. , I was really thinking, "Oh my God, I want to call my lawyer, I want to find a way to get rid of this." One thing I didn't do well was: I always yelled. They quickly realized that they had to start with all the conversations, and when the /one/day/ end, I couldn't keep yelling, otherwise I wouldn't be able to yell at the end of the filming.
Daniel: I had this experience in "Jesus Is My Companion". I ask them not to film more than two speeches in the same week, because I might actually have to give a group of people a 12-hour speech. Yes/one/day/, I stand on the steps with the Rainbow Alliance, the Young Patriots, and the young parliamentarians. My voice is like—I can’t, I can’t.
Tom: That's crazy, man. It's crazy that two guys from London are doing these things in Hollywood.
Daniel: You are "Spiderman", but I still want to ask, what does it feel like? Let's talk about it, has your life really changed?
Tom: Yes, there are three stages of life change. It’s weird. To be honest, the audition process was terrible. After seven months of audition, I must have tried it six times, but they didn’t say anything. You have been waiting. Finally, I flew to Atlanta, where there were me and six other children, Robert Downey Jr. was also there, and we all auditioned with Downey, which was crazy. Everything is going well, this is the best/best/ audition I have ever participated in, he and I imitated each other. My agent told me that Marvel wants you to remember your lines accurately and you can’t improvise. Then, there was another audition. This time Downey completely changed the scene. We started playing against each other. I mean, it actually sounded a bit/jerk/ass/, I called my mother afterwards and said, "I want me to pass Audition.” Then six weeks passed, and I didn’t get any news, so I guess I didn’t get this role. There are many such /votes/votes/ on the Internet. I am definitely not the most popular/received/loved/welcome/ The person who got this role. Then they called us back and we had to fight Chris Evans. They took us back to Atlanta, me and another guy, we filmed this scene, it was really surreal. At that time, if I didn't get that role, I would feel that I had at least got something to achieve that goal. It was already a great experience. My dad and I went out to play golf. I lost and I was very frustrated. I remember I turned on my phone and checked Instagram. Marvel posted a photo of "Spiderman", which is a comic photo. By this time, I thought I didn't get it because no one called me.
Daniel: You found it in the media?
Tom: Yes. I took out the computer and my dog was sitting next to me. I typed in "Marvel" and the report was still saved on my computer. It said, "We want to introduce our new Spider-Man, Tom Holland." I broke the computer because I threw it away. In the air. It fell from my/bed/and my dog went crazy. I ran downstairs. I told my family, "I got that role, I got that role!" Obviously, that was when Sony was hacked, so my brother Harry, a fairly tech-savvy person, said, "No . This can't be true. They will call you. They were hacked." Then the film company called me and told me the news. The way this all happened is really weird. I shot "Captain America: Civil War" and I shot it for a week. From filming "Captain America: Civil War" to filming "Spider-Man: Homecoming Season", I had a hunch that they would fire me. I don't know why. "Captain America: Civil War" has not been released yet, I just haven't heard from anyone, I really can't explain it, it's bad, but they didn't fire me. It's crazy, man, I love every minute of being Spiderman.
Daniel: You are an excellent spiderman, a very amazing, amazing spiderman, and the subsequent "Avengers: Endgame" is a phenomenal movie. So what was it like shooting this movie "Sheri"?
Tom: The movie I made after "Avengers: Endgame" was "Sherry", but the director is the same person, which is really weird. Now we are filming "Spider-Man 3." It felt weird to be back in Atlanta at that time, because I seemed to be back when I first auditioned for Spider-Man. Every time I walk into the office, I think, "Oh, God, I don't know my lines. I will ruin my audition." Then I remind myself that I have got the job. How about you? My problem with "Black Panther" is that when you were shooting this movie, you realized that you were shooting the biggest/big/,/most/tool/text/hua/inner/container ever. One of the blockbusters, or did you realize it when it is released?
Daniel: I think this is something we are aware of. Yes/one/day/, we filmed the waterfall scene. Obviously, during the shooting, everyone stayed on the set, and there were hundreds of people on the set. During the shooting, we also have real drummers who will accompany Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot"
Tom: No way.
Daniel: Then everyone would say, "Snoop!" It seems that hundreds of people would really do it, and when I saw this, I was like ー ye, it won't be quiet, there is only one Kind of energy. Everyone is fortunate to be a part of this moment. It feels like a moment. We can show the world in a way we see ourselves. This is a Marvel movie. You bring something that doesn't exist into this world, it's really difficult, because there is no blueprint, no template. There will be some pain in doing so. But when people receive it, people treat it as their own, children and families go to the cinema to dress up, and it makes everything worthwhile. In your career, you are in a very compelling position, you can become a movie star, but you chose to shoot "Sheri", you shot this/independent/li/movie, this is a Personalized story, is your wish to do both commercial and/independent/independent/movie?
Tom: I think I will do both. I want to make a horror movie, but I am too courageous. "Escape from Dead End" is a horror movie I have ever watched. I like this movie, but I can't tell you how many nights I have insomnia because of this movie.
Daniel: I have a babysitter. They often show me "Meng Ghost Street". When I was a child, I often watched this, which made me have nightmares. So I don't go to watch a horror movie specifically, but Jordan Peel made it great.
Tom: We made a joke at home because obviously, as Englishmen, we drink a lot of tea. You can stir the tea leaves. "Why are you doing this? Do you want /hypnosis/me? What's the matter?"
Daniel: Brother, it's interesting to go to London for a cup of tea after watching "Escape from Death".
