Of crude brush strokes and dream-like picture, as if we saw a child's picture book, a kind of a return to purity . In the story, there are not too many complicated human natures, straight and straight, and there is no slant plot. It is really like a fairy tale about bedtime for children, with the solemnity and indulgence for adults. In this kind of story, there are rough seas and a brave and kind little soldier, coupled with the exotic environment, ancient times and the unique sentiment of Celtic music, the overall feeling is transparent and clean, uplifting but also sad. .
The story of the film takes place in 1650, which was the age of colonial expansion in England. The female protagonist Roybn and her father Bill lived a free hunting life in England, but they came to Ireland with Lord Protector. Under the high-pressure rule of Lord Protector, the wolf was portrayed as a treacherous and evil enemy, so they called on the whole city. The men dispatched wolves together. The father became a repressive and mechanical werewolf, and his daughter was put under house arrest by him, famed as protecting her.
Losing her freedom, Roybn has been unwilling to live a life of hunting, so she practices archery at home every day, and looks forward to sneaking into the forest to hunt the wolf with her father. Finally she waited for the opportunity to sneak out, but found that hunting was not what she had imagined. Mebh, the "wolfwalker" lurking in the forest, was friendly and innocent, so Roybn's attitude towards wolves, father, and protector of the country happened. Changed...
The film can be interpreted from many angles, such as environmental protection themes , such as post-colonial thinking about colonial rule and so on. I want to talk about two details first:
First, Bill told Roybn not to run around, because the children in the city hate their English people. In fact, it is true. The "wild children" on the street are very hostile to Roybn. He learned that because Lord Protector took his father away, and Roybn's father is still working for Lord Protector.

Because the animation is for children to watch, these parts are not shown much, but we can see the creepy and extremely sad background of the times.

"I'm all for your good." This sentence is often heard from Roybn's father. Later, when Roybn faced Mebh's impulse, he also said this sentence to her. It can be seen that his father's behavior has already subtly affected Roybn. .
But in fact, the thought embodied in this sentence is not only reflected in the Roybn father and daughter, it runs through the whole film, and the other hidden place is the attitude of the guardian to the people in the city: destroy wolves, domesticate wolves, and burn forests. Just build the city and put all the voices of dissatisfaction in shackles, and people's lives will be peaceful. The Lord Protector is doing good for the people.
But is this really the case?
"I'm all for your own good." I believe that Chinese children often hear their parents say, but how many of them really do it for their children? What is more is to hope that children will be obedient, throw away independent thinking, and build a "harmonious society" of the emperor, the minister, the father and the son.
For a long time, we have heard two voices about what the beautiful new world should look like. The urgent advancement of civilization in this film is disintegrated by spring, dreams and freedom. The background of the film is 1650, but the problems it discusses are what we modern people need to face.
Nowadays, cyberpunk style is becoming popular, and what it describes for us is the deconstruction of the future world: technology will not bring great progress and people’s happiness, the gap between rich and poor is widening, mechanization and ubiquitous surveillance Let the city become cold and evil, the assassin who wandered on the street holding an umbrella and wearing a black windbreaker actually sent a faint hope. The prevalence of this doomsday illusion is not accidental, but people's determined outlook on the future after fully reviewing the past.
