In fact, he is just a copy of the doctor, a clone. The final story is as simple as the real Superman defeated the clones in a suit that can absorb yellow sunlight and a black background. The only concern for the film is that the issue of cloning was mentioned, and the screenwriter handled it quite inhumanly.
