Two weeks ago, I finished watching Capone twice, because I was too sleepy to watch it... and then I always wanted to watch it again seriously and fulfill the obligation of soup noodles; until yesterday I overfulfilled my one-day reading plan ( It’s good if you don’t use Weibo), and only wear headphones to review it at night-the action of wearing headphones is because of the recommendation of'Capone' Is As Serious As You're Willing to Take It .
Well, the second time I was fascinated by it.
At the beginning of the film, following the traditional narrative structure, two lines are given: one bright line and one dark line: the open line is ten million dollars hidden in unknown place; the dark line is an illegitimate child who does not know where to emerge. The two clues are tightly bound together: the bastard is staring at the palm of the 10 million FBI.
The story is supposed to be easy to make up. There is a half-dream and half-awake boss, a group of "everything" family members, a loyal and honest bodyguard leader who is actually a "lethal weapon". Outside is the FBI who does not stop at his goal, and there is a heart in the middle. Ghostborn doctor; then the illegitimate child appeared, and the lake could no longer maintain its surface calm.
I believe many people will be satisfied with this development.
However, Josh Trank, who is also a writer, director, editor, and also played a small role, threw such a "good" story out of the blue. The open line ended without a problem, only a summary in the ending subtitles as if suddenly remembered; the dark line had a "warm" ending inexplicably, but how did it end? What does it mean? God knows.
So this is not the twilight story of a big boss Capone, no conflicts have been resolved from it; like Bronson, this is a character study, about a dying person who can no longer control the destiny of others, even his own function The portrayal of the once in power who can no longer control, what the audience sees within a hundred minutes is his external and internal decay process. It should be called Fonzo.
When I watched the movie for the first time, Tang Ha's performance did not convince me. What I was always worried about before was that he played Capone as the elderly Ronnie Kray, but during the watching, I thought of the elderly Reggie from time to time. In terms of appearance conditions, Tangha does not look like Italian, especially when most of the people around him in the film are Italian actors, the difference in appearance is even more obvious; there are also problems with makeup. The first time I watched it, someone else’s. The skin color is normal, but Tang Yan's Capone is pale and as white as a zombie, the contrast is very dazzling, but the second time, the problem is not so obvious, I don't know if it is related to expectations.
As for Tang’s performance, what I think of after the first time is Bell, who played Cheney in "Vice President": It’s not enough to have so many prostheses and heavy makeup (Bell is also gaining weight), and I have to act !
Both are good actors that I love, but sometimes they work too hard.
However , after the second time, my perception changed again: no matter whether Tang acted like Capone himself (some film critics said that his "Bunny Bugs" voice is quite similar to the old Capone's original sound), it should be said that he has reached Trank. And what he wanted to achieve, he succeeded in shaping such a fierce, fragile, former authority who staggered amid bloody pasts, persecuted delusions, and a trace of remorse; however, his grief and fragility are not worth it. Sympathy-Trank and Tang Ha seem to be determined not to put a little "gold" on this big guy-because his method of overcoming fear is still to create fear. "Is it worth it? You trash!" Capone fired a shot at the predator in the lake of Jieyu; "Is it worth it? You trash!" After the illusion of killing again, the predator was silent. The ground swam between his legs.
Many film critics compare this film with Lynch (the film is a long-term collaborator of Lynch) and Kubrick's films (especially "The Shining"). It is certainly not that weird, so scary, "halfway", can only score 7 points. Trank said that he and Tang Ha will collaborate on a mini-series about the early CIA and expect him to have a better performance.
