"Deadpool 2" is like a great comedian improvising. When he was on stage, more than half of the jokes were funny, some were extremely funny, but some were basically not funny.
The reason may be his hasty preparation time-the first one took nearly ten years to polish, and the second one was "catch-up" within two or three years; or it was due to insufficient funding-110 million US dollars, which is more than the first one. "American Team" is even less; but it is more likely because: he is really too lazy.
But he is a great comedian after all. So you still think it's worth the fare, and there are few pure comedies on the big screen after all. Of course, the premise is that you like unlimited or cynical jokes, which is the response mechanism of the character Deadpool (and many of us) in the face of tragedy.
Deapool lamented his "lazy writing" of the script twice in the film. First, when Cable explained the operation of his time machine: "Send me here once, and send me home once"; then when Domino helps to remove the neck ring at the end of the film: "There is absolutely no way to have one password."
This self-referential mockery is the biggest feature of the Deadpool series. It is used to a very exaggerated level in "Deadpool 2". Saved this movie to some extent, but also killed it miserably.
Let's talk about "lazy writing" first. First of all, the title is lazy. The crew felt that since they couldn't think of any particularly good subtitles, they would just call it "Deadpool 2".
Secondly, this kind of "laziness" is that the movie recycles a lot of the stems and bridges used in the previous episode. For example, Deadpool’s head is shot through and there is hallucination, his interaction with Blind AI (baby hands correspond to baby feet or something), the slow motion and soundtrack of the protagonists when they set off, they attack the opponent’s face with the crotch, ordinary humans Peter and Bob from the previous episode. Another example is the words mentioned in the line in the last episode, like the impractical "superhero landing", "In my next life I will use the speaker to play the song "Careless Whisper" outside your window", "cocaine is next to the medicine for blindness" ; There are even smaller objects like "Adventure Time" watches and so on, too many to list. It fills most of the comedy blanks very easily.
Once again, we have to mention "fridging" . There is no corresponding Chinese translation of the word "fridging". The literal translation of the word "fridging" is: "The woman in the refrigerator", which is used to express a common phenomenon in popular culture: the heroine's tragic death is used as the motivation of the hero. So as to promote the development of the plot.
Although Vanessa's death in "Deadpool 2" was finally reversed by the authorities, the main creators said that they had never heard of the term when faced with "fridging" questioning. They simply thought that the character Deadpool was abused would change. The more fun it gets. But letting an important female character die like this in the first act, and then not showing up much in the film, is really wasteful.
Even the motive of the male number two Cable is the same. Like copy and paste, Deadpool wants to reunite with his lover, and Cable wants to reunite with his wife and daughter. Both people finally gave up their wish because they saved a child (although Cable may have other reasons). Even lazier is that Wolverine only did it last year to save the child.
The "lazy writing" that makes me feel the most dumbfounding is this paragraph of dialogue that took place in prison to elicit the villain Juggernaut:
-The fuck you want?
-That's my fucking pudding.
-Fuck your pudding.
"Deadpool 2" is like using Cable's gun. It is adjusted from 0 to 11 on the basis of the first episode. Thanks to Deadpool's mask, it's easier to add lines. The jokes inside not only appear to be very up-to-date with the times—using some hot words related to political correctness, but also very “meta”.
The word "Meta" cannot be simply translated. Many people sometimes use it to refer to "breaking the fourth wall", but the meaning of meta is more complicated.
When the character breaks the fourth wall, he is usually talking to the audience in reality and can realize that he is a fictional character. And meta reversed this relationship. It is when real life events related to the creation content have an impact on the creation itself, like a nested self-referentiality and metaphor.
This "Breaking the 4th Wall Versus Meta" video on Youtube uses a great example at the end. It is the director Jon Favreau in the post-Iron Man independent film "The Chef of Fallen Soul", which he played by himself. The chef's rant to food critics alludes to the film critic pressure he faces as a director in real life.
"Meta" is a great bonus when used cleverly. Especially the few Marvel terriers in this episode ("brown panther" is really funny); the more brainy ones: "He's standing right behind you, isn't he?"; and the ones who mock the cartoonist Rob Liefeld: "Probably a guy who can't draw feet!", director David Leitch's representative John Wick's opening card and Dubstep soundtrack, and the way Juggernaut was defeated: entering behind a cable and then falling into the pool ( pool).
The most meta part is the ending plot with Wolverine and Green Lantern. But the screenwriter completely ignores the logic of time travel, and is still the joke of the previous episode.
The title of "Deadpool 2" is very beautiful, but many people can't take into account the exquisite graphics and funny list cards at the same time; "Deadpool 2" is more politically correct than any superhero. All are advanced, but feminism, racism, LGBTQ (including the character’s own pansexuality) have not developed any particularly memorable storylines, just using Domino’s armpit hair, three or four lines supporting roles, or the theme song "Ashes" Reflected in the form of MV.
These meta lines and self-quotations require the audience to have a high degree of familiarity with the Marvel universe. It is also a trap for the film company to let the audience second and third brushes. In recent years, people feel more and more tired. These filmmakers seem to be more willing to spend time and energy on unimportant guest appearances (such as Brad Pitt and Matt Damon in this episode) rather than improving the script. This year's "Top Player" and "Avengers 3: Infinity War" took this trend (also known as "recognition cinema") to extremes. The main formula for this type of trend is to use a script filled with eggs to tell a common story, plus a bit of current social issues to enhance the flavor.
The stalks in the movie are buried deep and shallow, causing the audience to laugh or be moved by the nostalgic plot, so that they have no time to take into account the roughness of the script; they also found a justified excuse for the lack of originality-you see, I know that I am very Lazy, so you can't accuse me of being lazy.
In "Deadpool 2", we saw the newly added mutants, saw Cable who looked at his flesh in the mirror, and saw Juggernaut crawling out of the pool (he also casually mentioned that Xavier was His half-brother); heard the existence of Mojo World, heard Cable mentioned his daughter Hope in the film (she is also a mutant, and Cable has entered the timeline of his father Cyclops when he was young). Moreover, the screenwriter Drew Goddard, who served as the consultant for the film, confirmed to join the "X-Force" film-a lot of stalks about future works have been laid out.
-I've seen you looking better... which if you've ever looked in the mirror, is saying quite a bit about the crap-circus that is pitching a tent on your face right now, dude. Much better...that is to say, if you have ever looked in the mirror, you will know that the scrap copper and iron circus camped on your face is already pretty bad now, man.)
Although superhero movies are often very enjoyable even if the originality is not high, when Batman starts to shake the burden, it really makes people worry about whether this uncontrolled "comedy adjustment" has become a superhero movie. Common problem.
Hopefully, "Deadpool 4" will improve.
