Does heaven really exist?
As a non-religious person, before watching a movie, I will tell you very firmly that for me, it does not exist, we just live in the world.
I was surprised when I saw that the title was adapted from real events. As I mentioned, I am a scientific believer, so I did not pay special attention to religious topics, news, etc.
Similarly, I don't have much investigation or concern about churches, pastors, and the only source of impressions of them is the various American dramas. Unfortunately, I prefer American dramas that solve crimes, so the characters who appear in these plots have a high probability that their image can be imagined.
Todd, a well-known pastor, is also a very kind person. From what I learned in the film, pastors should be a profession that needs to be very persuasive, and at the same time guide people to believe in beauty and strengthen some beliefs.
The film focuses on the operation of his youngest son Codon, and describes the various events that occurred after he went to heaven.
I do not judge the description of religious beliefs, but the two clips in the film deeply moved me.
One is when I heard that Codon is undergoing an operation. The residents of the small town in different positions prayed for it together at different locations. Not to mention whether it was effective or not, but at that moment, the brilliance of human nature was extremely shining. Facing the wounded and sick, blessing them and wishing them to recover, what a heart-warming scene.
The other is the sermon at the end of the film, a discussion about whether the movie theme heaven really exists. "Heaven is for real", "God is love", this is the conclusion given by the movie. The explanation given by the male protagonist is, “Through the love of parents, the baby’s first cry, we have glimpsed heaven, but we have chosen the hell full of hatred and fear.”
My understanding is that there are many good things in life. At that moment, it is like being in heaven. However, more often we ignore these good things and focus more on those dissatisfaction and negative factors.
Does heaven really exist?
I can't give an accurate answer, but I believe that beauty and happiness, these eternal pursuits of human beings, have always been by our side and within our reach.
